110v window a/c switched outlet

I want to put a small window A/C 110v in 10x10 room in garage.going to plug it in to a switched outlet with light switch at door to room.Will this turn the A/C on/off if switch on A/C is left on. Thanks for help!

My newer A/C's with digital controls tend to start up in the off mode when they're plugged in. It should work for an older A/C with knobs, but why don't you just get something new and efficient, and use the remote control they come with nowadays?

Didn't Know new ones came with remotes Dah! Thanks for the help! putting A/C high up on wall may be stuff in way to reach A/C controls.
