I have a used motor missing the name plate. There are 2 lugs and an orange wire loose.

Any ideas how to wire this ? I am putting it on my wood lathe.

Thanks

From your pictures, I see that it is a General Electric motor.

Call the "GE Answer Man", with the info on the label. You can google their phone number.

This appears to be similar to what you have.

Before you get too excited about that motor, you should be aware that 1/3HP is probably undersized.

I did exactly what you want to do with a similar motor, two speeds, forward and reverse and disappointment galore, even on the slowest speed. And, even made up a special panel for all that.

I believe mine is also 1/3HP. It originally had a 1/2HP three phase motor driving it.

That looks like an old 2 speed wash machine motor!
You'll notice its only 1/8hp at the 1145 rpm speed.
Tried to do this on a small bench type drill press about 25 years ago.
It was a waste of time and energy!
Ended up putting the original motor back on!

Here is a plate from another two speed motor I have, it may help with your wiring problems.
