My detached garage workshop has been miserable lately. 80-85° indoor temp the past month. 100% humidity.
528 sf insulated.

No AC currently, but have a small heater to keep the place at least 55° in the winter.

I'd like to keep the place low humidity to minimize rust on tools, and keep it cool enough in summer to avoid getting sweat on my projects. And keep it warm in the winter to around 55°.

I've talked to some people who recommend mini splits. Looks like I would need a 12,000 BTU unit. I've seen them range between $700-$2400. Lots of different brands. My research hasn't come up with the best brand/ price for my use.

Anyone have a mini-split that they are happy with? What's a good brand?

I have had a pioneer WYS series for the last four summers. It cools my 1600sqft garage without issue. I installed it myself, it did require a vacuum pump for install. It has been flawless, only thing I do it clear the filters and the outdoor coil.

I will say I only use it for heat to about 30F as I have other heating sources which are cheaper. The efficiency really drops off if you look at they efficiency chart and the number of BTU's it puts out at colder temps.

In the only town in Pennsylvania, Bloomsburg.
Northern Illinois, cold winters needing a low temp minisplit. For a 528 squ ft garage, if your insulated will be fine with a 9k unit. Have a 12k Fujitsu low temp unit heating/cooling a 1080 sq ft garage. More than enough heat/cooling from -7° to 101°, efficient at sub zero temperatures.....do not expect the same performance from a unit cost <$1200
