I'm trying to find a hose anti-kink "spring" but after much searching have only found short ones.
I need one that is ~12" long, up to 18" would be acceptable, but I've had no luck.
Also, the hose o.d. is 1", most of the ones I have found are for 5/8" o.d. hose.
There are lots of short ones on amazon, but I need one at least 12" long.
Stainless would be ideal, tinned or brass would be acceptable.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Not exactly what you're looking for, but might do the trick and more importantly, might be something you can find. What about a flexible radiator hose?

An external spring guard only limits the about the hose can bend within the spring, but does nothing to keep the hose from kinking. Only limits the bend radius. An internal thin wire stainless steel spring will assist the hose against kinking in the area of the spring. If it doesn't reduce the flow through the hose that might help.

Any external flexible stainless steel spring will work to limit the amount the hose bends. So if you find a long spring you can wind onto the hose and grip onto the hose end will work.

Unless it is getting some serious twist going, that's what a kink is, in this sense. It's a sharp bend. How does a stiff spring not keep it from kinking? You say that the spring won't prevent kinks, but then advise op to use a stainless steel spring?

An external spring CAN prevent kinking, but only if it fits tightly. Heck, you could wrap the hose section in a split piece of another hose and tighten a bunch of zip ties around it to prevent kinking too. The reason it works, is that the kinked oval cross section has a longer perimeter than the un-kinked round cross section.

But you said it "does nothing to keep the hose from kinking."

Ok, for a hose to kink it has to get wider as it flattens up to the point it folds into the kink. So if the spring fits the outside of the hose close enough to keep it from getting wider as it is bent that may help to reduce kinking.

I default to hydraulic hose by habit as I've been working with hyd hose for near 28 years. Not common there to depend on external springs as a means to keep a hose from kinking. But on a soft structure hose, like air hose or low pressure hose I think it could help reduce kinking.
