12 " led light strips

Hey everyone! I'm new to this, so bare with me. Not sure if I'm in the right place or not. I'm wanting to get some 12" led light strips to put in my truck toolbox. In the store. You can press the little button to see them work but it says 12 volt and you have to hard wire them.QUESTION: Can I somehow run them from AA batteries, and how much run time would I get? I really want to avoid splicing into my trucks wiring. It's not like they are going to be on constantly. Thanks for any help.

I have no idea about this seller, website or product. They say it'll last a full 12 hours on eight AA's. And 16ft should be a good length for most of your bed.

You would be much better off splicing into your existing wiring. These would make it very easy for you. I do not recommend them, but it would be the easiest thing to do.

Any particular reason you don't want to splice?

Thanks MrBalll. I just need enough for the toolbox. The main reason that I don't want to splice into the trucks wiring , is because I don't want to take a chance on shorting something or causing electrical issues. With all the electronics and stuff, just didn't want to chance it.

That would be plenty though, if it works as advertised. I've looked into the battery powered puck lights that are available at lowes, but still not sure if they'll be bright enough.

Each AA battery is 1.5 volts. You would need 8 batteries and a holder for them.

I have done similar projects with old 12v cordless tools. Hack the cheap/broken tool for the battery holding portion and connect lights, motors or whatever to your new rechargeable 12 volt power source.

What about those round lights they advertise on TV that you can put in closets and such. They are LED and run on batteries. I think places like Lowes, WallyWorld, Dollar General and such sells them.

You also should have a spare place on your fuse box to run a 12v wire from. A couple of electrical connectors, a rubber grommet or two, and you can be hardwired. WalMart sells LED lights in strips for a few bucks. Not hard to wire them in and you shouldn't have to splice into your wiring.

I've thought about the under cabinet puck light. I almost grabbed a pack , but didnt. I
go to extremes with stuff like this lol. Really wanting the white white light of the led's. As far as hardwiring, I haven't done alot of that and the truck is fairly new. Just don't want to somehow short or mess my electrical system up. I found these online after lots of searching. Truxedo also makes a set and Access makes a set. Has anyone seen or had experience with these firtshand? Most reviews are good with the occasional 2 or 3 bad ones. That's with anything though lol.
