Among what's already been mentioned Honda started using them on door hinges in the last few years.

The place I regularly run into 12 point bolts are the special pivot bolts on Toro reel mowers.

Only time I've specifically taken out a 12 point socket (3/8") in the last 6 months.

I think Caterpillar uses them around in random places. I'm pretty sure I've seen them in a Motorgrader cab before.

A lot of Caterpillar engines I work on use 12 point bolts, specifically in low clearance applications. Exhaust manifolds are common, as well as intake manifolds. Head bolts, rod bolts are almost universally 12 point.

If you ever go to a NASCAR race and visit a Chevy car and truck exhibit on the midway, they usually have a few high performance engines on standalone displays. Those engines have lots of 12 pt. fasteners on them.

I changed all the engine and engine cover bolts on my last Harley to ARP Stainless grade 8-12 point fasteners. Better than the stock torx and allen bolts. And IMHO better than any of the chrome alternatives. Factory bolts always oxidized and the torx button heads would strip out. I never had a problem removing the 12 point fasteners. I am a fan.

I don't have that bike anymore and it would cost $500+ to do it to the new bike. I'm sure over time I will though.

Driveshafts on all kinds of things, including medium duty trucks. Dodge unit bearings. Headers. Super handy for some styles of hydraulic orbit motors - nothing else fits well.

They are also known as "ferry head bolts". Why are you wondering?
