I got some t5ho 4 bulb fluorescent fixtures with a 120/277v ballast. I want to wire them to 120v and don't want to mess up. The ballast has a Black, White, and Red/Gray wire coming out of it. Where does the red/gray wire hook to? Neutral or Hot? On the Ballast it says to hook it to "Neutral (or hot)" with just the black and white hooked up only 2 bulbs go on, I would guess that the red/gray goes to hot as well but I don't want to burn up the ballast.

Probably wires up like this one. The extra wire goes to the hot. Wire them both (black and red/gray) together, they all light up. Add a second switch (S2 in the pic) and you can turn on two bulbs using S1, or turn on all four by switching on both switches.

If 120-277V, they will run on any voltage from 120 through 277V, just connect them.

Yes look at the ballast. Some a different than the one Charles showed. I have ran across a six lamp fixture that the red jumpered to the Grounded(White) of the incoming power. It should be self explanatory in the picture. And a good practice if your not sure is to try one first. That way if its wrong you only burn up one not all of them:) If you are still in doubt post pics of the ballast wire diagram.
