Negative, we actually broke it and made our own out of 1" high carbon steel and the drive that was left of the old socket. I'm pretty sure dad let it go with the piece of equipment it was for (disk) on the farm auction.

We just used a bar. You can get ratchets for them, but they're spendy, and would've been iffy for what we did. IIRC, it called for a minimum 1200 ft lbs on the nut. Dad and I just hung off the end of a 4' bar.

SO probably doesn't make one. Proto makes big industrial sockets like this and they are used in industries that have very large equipment such as power plants, manufacturing facilities etc. I have used some big sockets like this but I had no idea what they cost.

Big sockets like that are often used with 6 ft. torque wrenches and torque multipliers. In my former job (now retired) there were some fasteners that required tightening to 5000 ft/lb. Using a 17 to 1 torque multiplier, you could almost do it with one hand.

Not for a 5" socket! They are very expensive! Im sure they are also a very limited run in comparison to most standard smaller size drives.

I suppose that there is a market for that size tool but I wonder why Northern would even bother listing it. I can't imagine them ever selling even one.

I was talking to a friend of mine and he said they had a couple of 5" sockets for the rollers in the paper mill he used to work at. He said the impact gun cost a fortune but the breaker bar cost very little becuase the machine shop at the mill built them.

Thats actually not a bad price for a 5" socket from Armstrong. Up here in Canada we can get large sockets up to 8" from Gray tools and the 5" goes for just under $2400CAD. The 8" is around $4100CAD.
