When I had to replace the seals on a small Char-lynn hydraulic motor, it was held together with 12 point bolts. I think they were 5/16".

12mm 12 point on ford driveshafts. I know I’ve used 12 point on small block ford head bolts, but I think they were ARP bolts. Toyota axle bolts.

ARP header bolts

Never quite understood some people's vengence against 12 point sockets. If you need a 6 point, use it, otherwise 12 points are typically more convenient.

I use my S&K, CMan, Proto, 12pt sockets on my 68 Camaro that has mostly ARP fasteners on everything.
Mainly 3/8", but there are plenty of 7/16" and a few 1/2".

As others have said ARP Fasteners. Everything on my Race Cars were 12 pt.

Has anyone used a 9mm, 11mm, 19mm 12pt socket on a 12pt fastener?

Nope...and haven't used my Fire Extinguisher either...but nice to have around just in case...

12mm Toyota 3.0 head bolts, 7/16" & 1/2" for 6.9/7.3 IDI Diesel head bolts, a few SAE sizes for some CAT stuff (1/2", 9/16" & 3/4" IIRC), 5/16" or 8mm on 7.3 Powerstroke turbo. 12mm Ford drive lines and 1/2" or 13mm for truck u-joint straps.

I'm sure I've run into more between work and home, but this is what I remember off the top of my head.

Head bolts on a Jeep is 1/2 or 13mm 12 pt. Can't remember for sure. Wheel bearings for Jeeps and late 90s Ram pickups were 12 point. Just changed a starter on a 2000 Ram Cummins that used 10mm 12 point bolts.

I've started to like 12 point sockets more, especially on larger bolts.

They're nice for hard to get to/spin areas. I mean I have both, but there's nothing wrong with 'em.

Some for 4wd drivve shafts used 12pt 5/16.

Heavy trucks and equipment will use 12pt more then automotive. Swing gearboxes & hydraulic motors, starters, flywheel bolts, drive shaft bolts, ete...

Harley EVO head bolts are 1/2" 12 point.

Some sprocket bolts for Harley belt pulleys are 12 point as are lifter base screws, cripes they sell whole fastener kits to replace stock motor and trans hex and cap bolts with 12point...aiyiyi!

I believe I have had some U joint clamps with small 12 point cap screws in the past though cant remember if they were metric or standard. :dunno:

Head bolts, driveshaft bolts, the occasional oil pan mounted bracket on Kia. Pressure plate bolts, axle nuts, they're all over my friends Harley sportster, some 14mm spark plugs, internal engine parts too. Rover uses them all over, some are SAE.

Plus the thinner wall means you can reach things easier sometimes.

19mm or 3/4 for flywheel bolts. 9mm ten point, yes ten point, are in newer VAG products. 7/16is close to 11mm, I've had 12point header bolts to remove on poorly designed long tube headers. FWIW, if you need undersized bolt head to mount your headers, they're garbage headers. :lol_hitti

I've seen 8, 10, 12 & 14mm. I mostly work on Japanese brand cars and motorcycles.

The hub nut on the CV axle is 12 point 30mm on some Toyotas. That's a fun socket to track down on a sleepy Sunday afternoon...
