Do any of you have any pointers or first hand knowledge of good 12V solar trickle charging units?

My shed still doesn't have power (money has been thin lately), but I need to keep my tractor battery on a trickle charger, so the obvious choice is solar, does anyone have any recommendations, or any pointers to heed?

Thanks!

P.S. I'm kinda eye-ballin' this one; thoughts, opinions?

I need/want to permanently mount a waterproof panel (at least 15W) to my shed, then hard-wire the lines from the panel into the shed, and have plenty of room to grow, for other 12V batteries and perhaps a small transformer.

Those cheap "windshield" mounting units, aren't really what I'm looking for this application. Although I am looking for opinions on those as well, as I'm thinking about putting one in my Jeep, which can sit for weeks without being started...depending on my schedule.

I have a perfect solution for you. Get on ebay and type in VW solar charger. Volkswagon offered a cigarette plug in solar charger with some of their cars. They go for practically nothing and are perfect for keeping a battery topped off. They only offer a couple milliamps of current, but thats all you want for a tractor battery.

Thanks for the tip, might be just the ticket for the Jeep!

Quick question regarding these windshield chargers, how do they charge the battery, when the 12V cig. lighter isn't powered when the key is off?

Do these 12V cig. lighters allow for flow to the battery, but not from the battery when not keyed?

Be careful that what ever you decide to buy that it has some sort of voltage regulation. If it does not have anything at all, you will quickly learn the life of a burnt out battery . . .
