12v electric motor assembly question

I took apart a Fracmo 12v motor from a Raymarine type 2 linear autopilot drive to rebuild. A new motor is $500, so it is worth it. I haven’t been able to find a cheaper replacement.

Unfortunately when the bottom end to the motor came apart the bearing popped out, as well as a 3 dimensional washer/ring. I’m not sure if the ring goes into the end cap first, or after the bearing. It doesn’t appear to be a tight fit for the ring, so unless it has warped I don’t believe it was for retaining the bearing, but I could be wrong.

I’m replacing the bearings and brushes on the motor and will clean everything up.

Anyone have insight into the order?

The spring goes in the end cap, the bearing goes in on top of it. The bearing should slide in and out of the end cap. The spring is there to provide a bit of pressure and keep the whole deal kinda snug.

Kay as the spring right, very common on these types of small motors.

There is usually some way of keeping the brushes back while assembling such as a hole to insert a small allen or bent paper clip or to install them after assembly thru side ports.

Kay is correct, and this is a very common application for a wave washer. It's a quick and inexpensive method to fill up the space and take up manufacturing tolerances to ensure no end play under typical conditions.
