What is smartside siding??

Fiber cement?
Masonite?

Where did you buy it and how much?

Thx
It's waferboard
Around here you can buy it from the many Amish shed building firms, it is supposed to be rated for exterior use. It's not much more than regular T1-11, I think last project I used it for 5/8" was around $23 at Stolzfus in Atglen Pa.
I work at a LP SmartSide mill so I get the same board for $4/sheet. Therefore I use if for everything and I gotta say it's tough it holds up to abuse. Your shed looks nice, my garage is 12x20 :(

Very nice!!! Gotta love getting a good deal.........

Thanks!

I wish I'd made it bigger now... but, oh well! I guess I'll leave that up to the detached garage/shop build in the future!

I don't know how long ago your shed was built. I couldn't find any dates on the page, so I hope you are still checking the forums. We have a remote cabin in Alaska and would like to build a shed on it. We bought a metal shed kit and that didn't last very long. We really like this one that you built. Would it be possible for us to get a copy of the plans, or the supplies that were used? We have worked with Lowe's for our cabin and they can get us a parts/price list together from the plans. Thank you for sharing your experience!

Been a long time......

Shed is still holding up great. I finally completed a couple small projects that I'd been meaning to do pretty much ever since I built it!

Made up some "faux" windows using small old house window sashes. Painted glass black on back side, painted sashes with new ext. white, and built little shutters using old treated decking boards and painted them black. All FREE stuff I had laying around. Plan to build some small window box planters as well. Helped not make it look so plain.... Which has bugged me!

Too plain IMO...

Also, I threw together this little step to get rid of that ugly concrete pad...

Finished out beautifully. Size is great and all the details are very nice. Looks like plenty of shop space as well as storage. I love the little gardens you have around it.

Great Job!

Best Regards

Thanks!

I'll have to grab updated interior pics. Finally built another "loft" above the open garage door which was "wasted space" IMO. Also added a couple shelves I took out of my truck when I removed my cap/shelving.

As for the gardens... Thanks! I plan to finish the one as you can see it abruptly ends at the tree behind the shed bc I ran out of rocks during that project. Can't see it from the house view... Ha!

Also, I'm currently excavating behind the shed on the upper side trying to create a better base/gravel parking spot. I'll also be extending the current gravel driveway to come up past the shed ramp and connect to the new parking behind the shed. I hope to add a shed roof off the backside of the current shed and cover this "parking area". It'll be used to store garden carts, firewood, etc. out of the weather. It should be big enough to squeeze the truck in there as well if I build it right!

Excavation!

Pics don't show grade/elevations very good IMO..... Looks flat! :dunno:

Anyway, got some more seat time tonight on a Dads old tractor. Moved more dirt and starting to get down to almost grade height, in spots! Final gravel/millings height will be about 2" below Smartside siding. Still a ways go....

Proposed width at the metal stake uphill... 12' from corner of shed. Tape measure laid out trying to determine width of gravel "drive" that will extend from existing drive up past shed ramp, leading behind shed.

Thanks..

I can get you an exact measurement tomorrow in the daylight... but just looking back at the pictures I'm gonna say they are about 91" tall (stud, bottom plate, double top plate).

I didn't want to cut all the exterior wall sheathing down from 96". And, I wanted the sheathing to cover the end grain of the 3/4" plywood flooring and the 2x4 treated band boards. Plus it covers alittle bit of the 4x4 main flooring beams as shown in the siding pics on page 1.

Got boost, wall info above from op back in post 34
