I never encountered hard bolts except these particular bolts on the Okuma. You will destroy any other bolt, for example, on your bike, if you use a wrench with hard open end.

Just found this thread, and was greatly anticipating a show down of american tools...
Congrats on finding a (hopefully) better job tho!

Now lets find another wrench to demolish...

I wish there were more threads like this. If I remember correctly (don't want to read all 17 pages again right now), the Stahlwilles did survive the longest, but a couple of brands weren't fully tested when you quit your job?

You remember correctly, but don't forget that the Stahlwille was one of the shortest and that feature save the tool from great torques.

As I mentioned to MISKIN in another motorcycle forum an INOX wrench such as BETA 42INOX part # 000420312 would have been interesting to compare with all the others.

I didn't had the chance to test the 1B and I can't find measurements about 450N.

I have the 1B and I would not buy it again. I think the tolerances are quite large or the bolts on the car were small:) Alos I feel the material is quite soft or it is my idea...

Has this test been mentioned in this thread. Carried out in professional hand tool testing lab. They tested combined 13mm wrenches regarding strength, failure mode, fitting to size and else. Unfortunarely the Test is written in German.

Great article (just looking at their table, ratings, and using google translate).......looks like Snap-on's ratings is weighted down like an anchor because of price. Who would have thought?

EDIT- a bit of a surprise that Metrinch was one of only 3 US brands.

EDIT2- Looks like their machine maxed out at 177 ft*lbs (240Nm) and that was a limiting factor because so many of the wrenches were able to handle that much on the boxed end. I feel they needed to get a better set up to see who the real winners are.

240 Nm is the maximum torque for the hardened 13mm hexagonal pin. They say it would be 700 € to replace, therefore 240 was the maximum. According to the german standard DIN 3113 the open side of a 13mm wrench has to withstand 51 Nm while 107 Nm are required for the ring.

What US brands are missing? Snap-on is very expensive in Germany because you don‘t find it in hardware stores and only few dealers offer it.

The value-for-money champion of the competition „HR“ (India) was purchased for 1€. Years ago I purchased a set of 23 HR wrenches 6-32mm at „Aldi“ for roughly 30€. Not the best finish but mechanically very good.
