I have a 14.4 volt Dewalt combo kit that's pushing 20 years old, but with minimal use. One battery is totally gone and one is weak. The best deal I've seen on OEM batteries is about $67.99, which seems ridiculous, considering a new 18 volt drill with two batteries is available for $99.
I see all the aftermarket batteries, even the higher capacity ones, for $30 or less on Ebay & Amazon. Has anyone had any experience with those?

I did an aftermarket for a 14.4v Milwaukee I had. Seemed fine, no complaints. But I'm not a contractor using it 8 hours a day.

You can rebuild them for pretty cheap by getting the cells online. You can also check out local batteries plus, or some other similar store if you have them that can rebuild them for you. Batteries plus will talk you through it and give you different options on AH.

They rebuilt several 14.4 DeWalt for me. Cost was comparable to a new cell but I git the same warranty and a better battery.

If the tools are good I would rebuild the packs myself. Takes a little attention to detail to solder up the cells but is the lowest cost option and you sometimes upgrade the mAh capacity of the pack with nice, new cells.

I had one rebuilt by Batteries + a while back and it worked out well. Reading more recent reviews and after a phone call I have doubts about the batteries they are rebuilding with, today. For a current rebuild I ended up buying sub C NiCds from Battery Junction They carry Tenergy which is generally considered to be a good brand. The 2200mah with tabs is just $2.10 a cell. $2.00 without tabs. They are helpful and have full specs on line. They stock just about every chemistry, all the different types of lithiums,NiCd,NiMh, etc. and shipping was quick and inexpensive

Go on Amazon or ebay and buy the non OEM replacement for $20 ish. I have several and no issues with any of them.
