14" chop saw

So what is everyone using for a metal chop saw these days? I have a very old Makita chop saw and want to replace it with something new, I really like my Milwaukee tools and I also have some Dewalt stuff as well. I'm looking for a corded saw. I was just looking at a Milwaukee saw and the looks didn't really impress me. So what says the brotherhood here?

Found a test/review of 8 different chop saws and it appears the Dewalt came out on top. I took a look at the Dewalt D28715 and it looks like that might be the saw unless someone else chimes in with a better choice.

I'm sure you will get a wide variety of opinions. After looking at the current big name offerings and comparing features and price, I went with the Harbor Freight version. That was about 9 months ago. I put a Dewalt blade on it. Since then I've cut a lot of steel with it and it has worked flawlessly. For me, the price was hard to beat and performance was up there with the rest of them.

Ayuh,.... I got a Porter Cable dry-cut saw, Years ago, 'n absolutely Love it,...

It replaced a copy of itself I got used outa a dumpster, Years prior to that,....
I killed the ole one buy tryin' to cut ole tires,...
The blade bind on the rubber caused the motor to let out it's Magic Smoke, so I bought a brand new copy of it,...

It'll cut a 2" solid pin, or a tin 2x4,....

about 10 years ago, i replaced the old orange HF chop saw that went up in smoke.
i looked at all the abrasive saws i could find, and bought a ridgid.

it's the only one with a cast base. all the others have stamped steel bases.

I have the Evolution Rage 2 and really cant find a bad thing to say about it. Does whatever I need it to in my home shop.

I like the Dewalt one I use at work. It has the sideways handle, which I find way more comfortable

I picked up the Dewalt DW872 last year when Zoro had their 25% off coupon.

Great saw for my hobby metalwork. Prior to getting the dewalt I drug out the HF horizontal bandsaw for most cutting. The DW872 is my go to now for anything expect really large or thick pieces.

Best dry cut saw out there. The machined V-blocks are awesome too (sold separately...)

It doesn't have all the quick release knobs and such that others do, but that also means it doesn't have cheap plastic knobs to break or wear out.

I recently acquired three new 14 inch diamond saw blades. A 600 dollar one a 300 dollar and a 200ish.

What do we think of using them on a cut off saw?
They were a swap for a yost 34c I never used.
They'll go on a modified hf tile saw to cut some stone... Just wondering about using one on a chop saw for metal.

Good cut, kinda ****** vise like most others...But I'm not doing precision with that. That's what good band saws are for or high dollar dry/cold saws.

Just thought I'd show the stand I made for my chop saw. I keep it in the garage, but roll it out into the driveway to use. So I made this simple wheeled stand. The stand has its own 50' extension cord coiled on the back and an outlet box on the back so an angle grinder can be plugged in to clean up the chopped edges. The framework around the saw holds it in place, but still allows it to be lifted off for use where the stand is not practical. It works very well for me.

Ayuh,.... I tried a diamond road saw blade on my dry-cut Porter Cable,....

It Don't cut steel for ship,....
A toothed blade will walk right through, the diamond scratches the surface,...

Just make sure you match the blade you use to the RPM of the machine... Toothed blades need SLOW spin... abrasive machines are high speed.

You must have one of the older ones with a cast steel base. The new stamped steel base flexes a lot, the pivot is wobbly and the clamp only works well at 90 degrees. You definitely get what you pay for with that saw.

I'd love to get the MK Morse or Fein Slugger, but this Northern Tool one seems pretty hard to pass up. I feel like I've seen in on sale before for around $250-275, but I could be mistaken.

There's also this, but I don't know how I feel about those multi-purpose saws. I do like how the work stays horizontal for miter cuts, which is unlike other metal saws. Here it is in action.
