Yes only downside is that you have to wait until they receive shipment but you can still place order. order comfirmation said 5-7 days until item ships

A bit, but plywood would feel really constricting, not to mention darken the room a lot. Wire shelves leave the space feeling much more open.

Until you fill said wire shelve and no light passes anyway.

Unless you're going to store a sheet of plywood on it, a lot of light will still pass through.

I was looking at this and the space i have above my garage door when opened is 14 inches... i think i may order the longest hanging ones as i can cut the vertical bracket and have more length if i ever want to move it.

I picked up a pair of 4x8 safe racks from Woot.com for $139 each - while they aren't as strong as the Strong Rack's since the space above the garage door is limited (and thus I won't/can't be over-loading them) and I'm not sure how long we will be living here, I went with the more cost-effective option. (true, lumber and plywood might be cheaper)

Installed the first one today.

The storage racks are awesome. I don't remember what brand mine is but it's the same thing. You can see it hanging in the left corner. Nice to have stuff out of the way and looks better than plywood.

Seems like a good deal for those not wanting to fabricate a shelf.

I would still think you would need some additional bracing under these panels unless the loads are very light? Of course you could start with these panels, weld on some bar stock or rebar to strengthen....

For me, this choice of buy over build was worth the $140 to have everything delivered to my door and no time fabricating, painting, etc.

Still a good product. I did a few pullups on mine to test its' sturdiness. And I'm no pajama boy talking about Obamacare, I tip the scales around 220lbs.

Ya, I figured the $139 I paid, or the $149 at Costco the OP paid was a good, but not some smokin' deal - that's one of the reasons I added to this older thread, rather than start a new one - just so others could see a common "sale" price.

^for anyone using the VersaTrack..

The directions don't say it, but you can use the "drop brackets" as the mounting bracket into the ceiling if your ceiling joists aren't 12" apart... I had to do that, but almost gave up with installing it before realizing I could do that. Although that does limit the amount of drop you have from the ceiling since you have to use the longer brackets.

Bought three of them the other day, have hung one so far. Pretty solid.

I want to **** the other two end to end over my double door, like some of their pictures show:

but not sure how they join them, and I don't have those vertical supports in the middle.

Double up the end angle iron so one ceiling support through bolt the 2 angle irons facing away from each other. One bolt 1 ceiling brace and the 2 vertical pieces.

That makes total sense. So in the end, I'll use all the parts except two of the ceiling brackets and two of the nut/washers/bolt combo used to bolt the verticals to those brackets. Thanks!

The company got back to my question on this, about 16 hours after I had already hung the units. Not sure why they don't just include the info in the instructions to begin with. They did state that the combined load limit on the two combined racks drops from 1200 pounds to 900, but that's fine.

The install was pretty easy, except for the fact that the framers on my house decided to space the last joist in the ceiling at 24", instead of 16". This forced me to have to crawl into the corner of the garage attic, in order to install to cross joists, so that I had something to mount the last two vertical supports to. Gotta love folks that don't follow building plans.

Well, it was warm belly crawling through the pink stuff to get in that corner of the attic, lemmetallya!

word of advice. Ditch the garbage lag screws that come with the shelves and get some decent ones. I had three break off while driving into the ceiling joist and another one broke off just putting some light weight on it.

After that I replaced all of them.

My neighbor snapped his first three as well. Turns out he wasn't drilling the pilot holes in the wood. I did that for him, then zinged the lags right in. He was pretty amazed.
