It really depends on how big the shop is and how the roof is pitched. I have a 30' x 48' x 10' steel building with a clear ceiling and rollup doors. That suites a hoist for any standard car or pickup without any issues. I plan to put a small loft above my machine shop area just to hold an office but it will be standing room only in the center.

The center section of mine is 14' then the 2x12" (part of the attic truss) sit on top of the inner 14' tall walls. I basically have two inner walls one is 8' high which the left and right traditional trusses sit on and then I have a 14' inner wall butted up to it that the center attic truss sits on. Here is a picture of the framing looking at the back of the building.

I did attic trusses on a 17' tall wall. Exterior of walls ended up being 18' 4" tall on the foundation because of the 16" hill height on the truss. I ended up with 22' wide space in one part and 16' wide in another. Cost me about $4800 for the extra in trusses and flooring, & stairs for about 4000' of extra storage space.

14 foot 6 inch side wall here with small loft on side. Works for a 6.1 tall person to easily walk on it.

Yep:

15' tall side walls, loft floor approximately 9' off the floor 36 ' wide by 8' deep along the far wall of the building, mostly in between the trusses with vaulted ceiling with the purlins of the roof for good head height the whold width. Great for storage.
