14ft wide roll up door rigidity question

Hope this hasn't been answered 1000x's already. A search on here and Google didn't clear things up.

I am building a new shop. It will have 3 overhead doors, two 14' x 14' and one 12' x 12'. One of the things I don't like about my current shop is that when the overhead doors are open (sectional doors), they block the lights in that area. Bugs are really not an issue around here so in the summer the doors are always open while I'm in the shop.

I also don't like the tracks as they can get in the way, rarely but when they do it's a problem.

So I am looking at roll up doors. I've worked in commercial shops that had them and I liked them but they quotes from Overhead Door Co were over 10K per door. I've found been researching Janus doors and so far have found positive reviews but my concern hasn't been addressed which is lateral rigidity. The commercial doors I've been around were fine but I haven't been able to see a Janus in person to compare to what I know.

Anyone have a similar sized Janus door? I am considering their model 3100. I can by all 3 for the price of 1 from Overhead Door Co. I know you can drive a truck through a roll up door but I don't want to be able to push my way through like I can at a storage unit facility.

Not sure what you're looking for as far as "lateral rigidity"

I have two 14x14 2500 series and two 12x14 2000 series from janus that I bought through rollup doors direct.
I haven't had any issues with them at all.

If you have any intention of ever heating/cooling the building, I'd stick to a sectional overhead door. You'll find that sentiment well shared around here.

As far as blocking overhead lights and tracks getting in the way goes, what will your ceiling height be? If it is significantly more than the door height, a high lift track arrangement greatly reduces how far the door/track protrudes into the room. Example below.

I usually park it on the lift.

I would go with normal sectional doors and mount LED lights to the inside surfaces.

Or sectional with glass on the top sections. Light during day. Also, glass up higher is more secure, and interior lights can shine through.

Thanks all for the insight. Someone asked about height, still kicking around 16ft and 18ft. Probably 18ft so I'll have space for a mezzanine with ~ 10ft clearance. Have till spring to decide on that.

I have a 14x14 Janus 2500 door. Is it easier to break in than a sectional door, probably. I don’t know if you could kick it in easily, but it would likely be easier to cut than a good sectional door.

Storage places usually use less expensive Janus doors like the 650.
