I've been on this site for years enjoying all of your builds and recently decided that it is time to finally pull the trigger on my own addition. I'm in the planning stages right now and expect this to be easy a 6-9 month project. I'm looking to do as much of the building as possible to offset the costs, but work will dictate my time for that.

The idea is to add a deeper third car garage adjacent to our existing two car garage (which is kinda tight for two cars) which is 20' deep by 19' 7" wide). I want to have a four post lift, so I'll probably need 12' high ceilings.

As far as my building experience goes I have only done interior framing/finishing work in my basement (bathroom and kids playroom) but I did pretty much everything myself except terminating the electrical at the box. So I've done rough electrical, HVAC, steel framing, drywall, insulation, drywall finishing, plumbing and flooring.

I have almost no real experience with concrete. And my lot is on a bunch of fill, which required spherical pilings for our homes foundation. The garage addition will likely require these as well. Now to get some pics to show you what I am planning.

I welcome any and all advice you all have.

While planning today I determined that a Bendpak Hd-7P four post lift would be required, for both working on my cars and storage. I had been thinking a flush mount scissor lift, but that doesn't help with the storage.

Wanted to hear issues and solutions you have run into particularly regarding electrical and insulation.

On the electrical front I want to run a small compressor, the lift, garage door opener, a grinder, a drill press, a table saw, maybe a small beer fridge and a tv, radio, lights and fan in summer and space heater in winter. Oh and a 240v charging station for my commuter car (Chevy Volt) that will go in my 2 car garage.

I'm thinking of hanging a breaker box in the garage as power distribution and just running a main line from my home breaker box? But I'm no electrician, so looking for advice here.

As for insulation, looking for opinions on best insulated garage doors, since my master bathroom is above my existing 2 car garage and it is ALWAYS cold in that bathroom. I'm thinking spray in closed-cell foam in the exterior walls and roof and better insulated and sealed garage door/doors?
