Hey, guys! I was at the flea as usual and happened upon this Snap-On toolbox... I asked the guy how much he wanted for it! He said "quince" in Spanish and being the white boy that I am proceeded to count with my fingers in Spanish uno, dos, tres.... then I forgot what came after 10... :) I then asked him what it was in English he said; "fifteen", I countered with how about 10? NO! Umm, how about 12? NO! 14? NO!... then I related how this was a flea market and had to try! I **** as negotiating! LOL! I whipped out the $20 and got $5 back! It was mine! :)

Interesting design, this thing weighs a TON! I had to keep switching arms when carrying this thing around the flea market! By the time I got to my car; my arms kinda hurt! The box itself is Snap-On Part # KRA-21C and with a date code of '77.
Who ever had this thing, apparently was a 70s/80s Motorcycle mechanic or racer; the two stickers are; (left) "C/C Engineering" with a logo that looks like a drag street bike and (right) "MRA" Mountain Road Racing Association with a classic "cafe racing works bike" for a logo (remember when they called them that? I must be getting old!). There are other stickers which are partially torn off; does the other one look like "Pennington Racing"? Any of you vintage motorcycle racing guys recognize these stickers or companies?

Once you undo the two latches; there is a top tray and flip down front door.

IMG_7007.jpg

The top try is removable and with the door flipped down; there are two pull out drawers.

Two pull out drawers; top has metal dividers and bottom is normal open space.

IMG_7010.jpg

Classic slanted "Snap-On Tools" logo.

IMG_7012.jpg

With the tray out; this is in the "down" position, so that it fits in the box when the top is closed.
The tray itself is Snap-On Part # KTA-3A and with a date code of '77.

IMG_7011.jpg

Here is the tray in the "up" position; when carrying around or using!

Rear view; this box was definitely used, has dings, bent sheet metal but is fully functional! Is the partially torn off sticker look like "Pennington Racing"?

IMG_7014.jpg

Side view; the box has nice side handles, if you fill this thing up I don't know if you can carry it by yourself; much less empty! I tell you this thing really is heavy duty!

I've seen the largest 1/2 drive set Snap on makes come in a box like that. I think you need a higher award than a simple you ****. I prefer used tools to new anyway, they have more character.Good find.

Load it up full of tools and carry it around the salvage yard all day.

And then after you leave the salvage yard, go work out at the gym. :bounce:

Nice score billy!

Billy... thats a killer deal! $15... no wonder he wouldn't budge! haha. Seriously awesome price and a very cool "vintage-ish" (yes I just made that up) S/O box. I actually like that design alot.

Yeah... you get a "YOU ****" award here ;)

What's the best way to restore/repaint the old tool boxes? I have an old 70s craftsman that could use some cleaning up:

Super Box, Good Deal! I got one 50 years ago when I was 16 just like its style. I use it as my road box. It was "old" when I got it and has a leather wraped top handle and also a slide tray that fits in the lower drawer. If I sold mine, I would have to get the $400 for it so at least I could still get a new one like it. It is heavy enough for a boat anchor, too.

Can't see the mystery sticker too well, but any possibility it's a Penton sticker? I'm having a hard time making out the fourth letter....

Penton made some legendary dirt bikes way back...
