16' Garage door Header ??

I'm hoping to be framing the opening for my 16' garage door tomorrow and
have a question about how many 2x4 jack posts will be needed on each side to support it. The header is going to double 2x12 with 1/2" ply glued and nailed in the middle.

I'm thinking 4 on each side would be sufficient. I am going to put a call into the inspector in the morning but he may not get back to me before i get to that point in the framing.

Anybody have any clues on the minimum amount?

Given the general quality of construction lumber these days the code will probably call for 3 2x4 supports. I'd put in 4 on each side if it was my building though.

I think we have 4 with spacer blocks between the 3rd and 4th for a 12x12 door.

And we have 6x6 posts holding up the 56' truss span

It took us some time to get a custom door built to our specs...definitely not the cheap way to go, but it'll be worth it when it matches everything. hand laid stone, stucco, brick arches, etc...complicated but its all jiving well.

Also depending on where he is located code may require a Laminated Beam depending on the garage design. I have them on mine even though the wall is not load bearing I like things extra strong if I can. I also have 4- 2X6 jack studs supporting it. I have found if you over build something usually the inspectors are more happy. I have 16" of header over my walk through door That was actually to fix a mistake but it turned out really strong.

My builder recently added my header ({2} boards 2" x 16" tall) for my 18' x 8' door.
He used (4) 2 x 4's on each end.

There are four 2x6s supporting each end of a 12" gluelam on my 18'x9' door and three 2x6s on each end on my 10'x10'. Originally it was one less on each side but we added one to correct a goof on the openings.

I think it also depends on which way the trusses run. By this I mean is there going to be weight on the header by the trusses or is the header just going to be riding under the trusses. I know that doesn't explain what I mean very well. If the roof slope is towards the header you may be required to have more jack studs, if the slope is to the left and right of the header, then the only weight you will have on the header is the header itself. Still doesn't sound like I explained it correctly

Well, after measuring it out i ended up going with 5 2x4's on each side to support the double 2x12 header. This still left me enough room in the front wall on both sides to have an exterior light centered.

Does that whole roof slope back towards the rear or am I looking at an optical illusion?

yep, 15 in the front 8 in the back.
