Hello,
I'm new here. I've been lurking and reading quite a bit over the last few months though. I want to drop by and shoot some ideas I have for a garage/super shed build. I call it a super shed because it will never have a car or truck in it. But it will house 2 Polaris Rzrs and possibly a small boat when I get tired of the Rzrs.
Anyway... I plan on building a 16x20 building in my back yard. I have a slight sloap to the planned area. It drops approx 20-24in. I had planned (wanted) to use a monolithic pad. Grade down the area on the up hill side to below pad level which would leave me about a 12in high "wall" on the up hill side. I had also wanted to add a 1 or 2 course block wall around the pad to give extra height and keep any moisture from getting into the walls.
So my questions:
1. Will a monolithic pad 18x24 inch edges and 4in pad with 1 or 2 courses of block be OK?
2. Do you think a monolitic pad with "curb" type wall would be better?
3. Do you think I need a true stem wall?
My Dad and I built an 18x30 workshop years ago. It had a monolithic pad. The yard was fairly level on one side but sloped off quickly on the other (approx 3ft). It was poured monolithic 2ft deep on the one side and believe it or not about 6in deep on the dropped off side.
One concrete guy quoted me 6000.00 said I needed a stem wall and 6in pad. That was actually the same company that poured the pad for my Dad's 18x30 shop mentioned above. Another said Monolithic pad and around 2500.00 - 3200.00 depending on which way I want with the block or curb.
The building construction is going to be 2x4 stick built with shingled roof.
