My wife and I just closed on our new home today. Lucky for me there is a garage on the property and it is a decent size. There is a 50 amp run to the garage and it is two stories with a dormer on the backside for more head room. Its going to take me awhile to get this garage how I like it but I am looking forward to it. I still need to finish our current home which we plan to rent. On to the pictures.

They took the wood stove which bums me out a little but I plan to put another one in. For the bottom floor I think I want to put a row of cabinets on both sides but I will have to play with that once I have a car in there and see how much I can move. Looking forward to making this a cool place and keeping you guys updated.

The new builds are cool to see, but places like this, Kiwi Kevs, the Firehouse, 1930's, etc. just have soul. There are stories in the rafters and the old wood floors. Clean it up and fit it to your needs, but don't lose too much of the character it's developed. Have fun!

Great tudor-look with character.

Love the hardwood floor in attic . . . sand and refinish that for sure!

Keep us posted. We like!

Congrats! Did your contract specify that the wood stove conveyed? If so, they should return it if you pursue it. Looks cool, lots of windows and I like the block. What Ideas do you have?

The stoves weren't in the contract but I just figured they would have left them. Apparently they hired a trash company to one and throw everything out that was left in the home. I want to clean it up. Add some lights, cabinets, storage and work areas. Plan is car work downstairs woodwork upstairs. I figure I can use that front door to get everything in and out the front door.

That's a great looking garage. It looks like it was a good quality build back when it was made.

Those concrete half walls on the left side are interesting. That wall appears to double as a retaining wall so they will likely have to stay put. Unfortunately they reduce the inner width of the garage in a place where you probably most want it. They might form a good foundation for a permanent bench.

Thanks for the input. I hadn't thought of that and was going to take them out. Both are loose to the outer wall so it doesn't seem like they are supporting anything. Maybe they did at one time. I will have to keep an eye on them.

I also plan to turn this portion of the basement back into a garage. I am hoping to put carriage type doors on the front and then the wive can put her car in there. This will keep the other building all for me.

There is a little water issue so I have a little work to do there as well.

I noticed there was a drain in the floor yesterday. I'm excited to see where it goes. It would be nice to be able to wash cars inside the garage.

One of my many future projects. I think it would make a cool coffee table for the upstairs.

If you are not going to paint or side the garage, get some deck cleaner and a powerwasher to clean the wood. It looks sort of like wood shingles on the side. Deck cleaner should clean it right up. Afterwards, when it dries out, cover it with a clear to keep it from happening again. A good marine spar varnish would protect it for quite a long while,

I think I will pressure wash it. There is a small chance that I will side it to match the color of the house but I have other projects to complete first.

Just noticed by looking at prior pics where you say "You've got water issue to work on" there appears to be code problem with water spigot being right under the electric meter. I'm thinking my electrician said there should be several feet from any obstruction below the meter, and definitely NO water source around the main electrical source to house. I'd sure have this cost covered by prior owner if at all possible.

Was water issue drainage that ran towards that small entry door?

Good luck and keep pics a coming.

The water issue is in the house not the detached garage. It seems the water is coming up from the floor. My bet is it is the retaining wall that borders it and has been packed down over the years. It seems the spigot works for now. The previous owner wasn't going to do any work and definitely won't do anything now that they have their money.
