18' Garage door?

I'm building my house and put in an 18' wide opening now I'm having trouble finding anything but 16' wide doors.

The garage is 24' x 25' so I didn't want a bottle neck at the door. This garage is for the daily drivers not for working on. So it won't get cluttered (famous last words)

I want the carriage door look if possible. 16' doors seem to run at about $700 at Lowes and Home Despot.

Call a garage door installer and forget about Home Depot. You can easily get a commercial door that will fit an 18' wide opening. (Commercial doors are actually 2 inches wider than the rough opening, so the door will be 18' 2" wide.)

My shop has an 18' wide and 9' 4" high opening, I got a commercial door to fit it. You can get a basic idea of available sizes at clopay's website.

Three of the five panels in my door are glass all the way across, kind of like a fire station. (I wanted a view). It was pricy, though, at about $2300 installed. Without the glass it would have been more like $1800 +/-

Ditto - I have an 18' and no problem getting an insulated door...just contacted my local door installer.

I just completed my house 6 mo. ago. The main garage is 24x28
with a 9x18 door.It was no problem getting a door for it. We just
called a garage door place and they took care of it. The over size
doors are one of the best things to design into a home. I have a full
size ford 4x4. If you are familiar with them they have huge side mirrors
that get in the way,but not with the wide door. Also it has a 6 inch
lift and 37 inch tires and I still have plenty of room between the top
of the cab and the door header. Good luck!

I ordered a 18 wide x 11 tall door from Lowes. I had to get a commercial door made by Wayne Dalton. It is insulated to R10. It was expensive, but pretty strong looking.

Both HD and Lowes can order a 18 x 9 door, at least my stores could. I had to go with commercial grade due to my door being over 10 feet tall.

I would make sure of your rough opening size required before you frame the building.

18' x 8' (oversize in both dimensions) residential insulated sectional doors are quite common around here - I have two of them, with sunburst windows across the top panel, made by Taylor. Don't know about the big-box stores, but garage door guys get them every day with no problem.

Wayne Dalton has the carriage door look you want, series 9700 and the are available in 18' widths. I just put these on my garage.
