Just had to show this. It's at an auction here in Ft. Myers this Sat. 12/13.
It's a big un. 18" 5 HP, 3 phase of course. Spins nice by hand, would love to hear it run.
I'm going to look up cost of the wheels, I bet they cost way more than the grinder will sell for at the auction.
Tag is rough and hard to read. Looks like the brand is Tool Line.

I just noticed the extra wheel on the pallet, never noticed when I was looking at. Just like me though, I never notice what kind of shoes a nice chest is wearing.

the grinders r inexpensive on ebay. i got a big 1 and thought it was worth more than i thought. i do know it works good now though. wheels cost almost as much as the grinder. i'd let mine go for $300.

I have a large 3hp grinder that uses 14" wheels, here are my thoughts after owning it for a few years and using it a ton. I am glad I got a 14", and not sure I would want to go bigger simply for the price and availability of the wheels. Mine came with a well used 36grit stone on one side and a small wire wheel on the other.

The 36 grit is a little too rough for me, and I plan to change the wheel out when I can afford to buy one. I did manage to replace the small wire wheel with a 12" heavy duty wire wheel and that made a world of difference. I love running the wire wheel, but 1 grinding stone almost doesn't seem like enough for some of the jobs Im doing and also I would like to grind carbide. For this reason I have started looking for another grinder, 14" or under.

This is just my advice, unless of course something like this comes up, and has the wheels you want in good shape. Then you're set. I probably wouldn't pass it up if I got it cheap. I paid $400 for my big grinder.

CB: nice find and with extra wheels too. as much as i'd love a huge grinder like that i think a belt grinder might be a better machine and why these big grinders are hitting the boneyards.

of course since you already know how to use a VFD and if it's cheap enough why not bring it home.

tool **** is the best and thanks for sharing some good stuff
