Hey guys, this here is my first post.....I am a looking to build a garage/workshop some time next year. I am doing a ton of research now. Basically these are my wants/needs.....1800 sq ft. ...2 man doors...2 10ft high garage doors...radiant floor heat.....the possibility of having a loft put in (something like 300 sq ft)....full insulation....power to run an 80 gallon Ingersoll upright compressor......I'm sure I am leaving a bunch of stuff out {its 2 am}.

As much as I have always wanted an awesome workshop, I am building this garage to house a Garn wood gasification boiler. This will heat the garage as well as the house. I live in Massachusetts, so we don't always have the best weather. I currently heat my house with an old woodstove and a pellet stove. Anyways, this new system will be much safer and more efficient.

Ok, back to the garage.....I have received quotes from Morton, Lester and a local shed/barn builder. The quotes so far have been insane, I never would have thought they would have been this high. On average, they were $70,000+. I have contacted Olympia Steel Buildings and am working on some quotes with them. I have a friend who recently had an Olympia built and he seems quite happy with it. I will also be contacting some local contractors and talking about a stick built structure too. I am far from anywhere near handy with a nail, level and hammer. I am a 20 year career firefighter/medic who does stump grinding as a part time gig....so construction has never been in my background.

Like I said before, I am located in Massachusetts. I've got about 30 acres here, so placement of the structure is not a problem. The site prep will begin this summer in hopes of building next summer.

Anybody with any thoughts or ideas on Olympia or any other company {except Morton and Lester}, I would love to hear from you. Anybody currently looking to go with Olympia or doing something similar to what I am thinking of...lets talk. Hey....if you are still reading, thanks for taking the time....Matt

Morton is nice stuff but..... I had a quote from them on my 32x52x12 with attic trusses for 2nd floor storage and it was 125k. I am now having it stick built with 2x6 walls by a local builder in my area for 63k.
