I have plenty of 18650 flashlights and cells to match. I am looking for something that you could set on the ground and aim and a magnetic base if possible. Does such a thing exist that isnt HF quality?

Works pretty well, could use more flexibility in aiming.
IMO, these days nearly EVERYTHING is HF quality if you're LUCKY - but mine seems as well-made as most... Steve

I have a couple Convoy s2's that I hose clamped to a mag base. The mag base is hf, but it works well for this.
I've used it to light a stop motion Lego video with my daughter, in the attic, and under the car.

Yes, just about every cordless tool company offers lights that run off their rechargeable packs.. or are you trying to make your own?
trying to find something that doesn't use proprietary batteries .
None of them use proprietary batteries. Just a proprietary battery holder!

I have s2's, not m2's, they don't appear compatible. New m2 is $24. The s2 was... $14? Three week delivery was a bummer, but it gives you time to forget about it before the little package with the funny writing shows up.

In case you didn't find anything, I'm looking at the Fenix cl25r for the next camping trip. Lantern rather than directional, but 18650 and mag base and built in usb charger.
