When i applied my epoxy i noticed that the 18in paint roller that i purchased from Lowes started to come apart:mad: and left little pieces of nap in my epoxy floor coating. I am going to help a friend do his floor and would like to know what you guys are using so this won't happen again. Thanks

I used a 9" roller skin from sherwin williams it was a white, 1/2 inch nap, soft woven roller skin, contractor series and didn't have any problems with it shedding. They might have 18 inch ones as well.

What the others said!
I just did my floor and used 18" rollers from Sherwin Williams.
The ones I used were 3/8"-nap contractor series (white) woven rollers (around $10 or $11).
Definitely take the time to de-lint them with some duct tape.
I used one roller for 2 batches of base-coat and one roller for 3 batches of main coat. I used a 9", 3/8"-nap, Purdy White-Dove (de-linted with duct tape) for the clear coat.
Neither of these roller covers fell apart at all.

use wooster or purdy quality rollers. they're not cheap but its a one time expense.

meh... wooster rollers always leave nap behind when I use them even after defuzzing them. I find that a 3 pack of shurline rollers from Walmart are the best bang for the buck. They have never left behind any nap straight from the bag without defuzzing them.

One thing to consider is the condition of the floor. If the floor is somewhat uneven, with numerous high and low spots, a smaller 9" roller might be the better choice. The 18" roller may "bridge" on high spots, which would mean a lot more material ending up in the valleys while the peaks get less coating. If the floor is relatively level, the 18" inch does make it easier.

And don't get a cheap 18" roller frame, pushing around 18" width of a thick epoxy puts a bit of pressure on the frame. A cheap frame will break - not good when dealing with a time sensitive application.

Whatever brand Lowe's has, Worchester I think? has worked well for me. I use 18" rollers on stuff I don't want to spend all day working on. Large walls, ceilings, floors, etc.

The better ENAMEL roller you can get from a REAL paint store with 3/8" nap..in My Opinion
