Epilogue stardate 100.2497:

What he got:

[Top] It's the old style, divided into four areas with a pull out tray like you'd get with a carry toolbox. I'm going to let him figure out how he'd like it but, an almost complete set of cheapie metric nutdrivers on one side, misc torx drivers on the other, misc SAE and metric 3/8 deepwells to fill out his set in the back area, and any upgraded sockets I had lying around (all sockets on rails). I left the removable tray empty.

[Small 3 drawers across the top] a smattering of 'stuff', SAE and metric allan wrench sets, utility knives, pick set, other **** I can't remember.

[Wide drawer 1] A Harbor Freight (HF) set of chrome moly 1/2 reg metric impact sockets, a bunch of good quality 3/8 & 1/2 extensions adapters swivels, a cheapie spare 1/4 ratchet, a (fully cleaned and lubed) SK 45170 3/8 ratchet (nice!), and a cheap 12" 3/8 breaker. Between this drawer and the top when he's finished putting his set in it should have an empty drawer.

[Drawer 2] nice decent set of screwdrivers, a HF set of various specialty fastener bits, a ratcheting offset bit holder, a cheapie set of small screwdrivers, a small crowbar.

[Drawer 3] a fairly complete set of pliers including good hosecutters, a 10" old Craftsman pipe wrench, a SK combo plier/hose clamp remover, and old visegrips along with the regular needlenose linemans channellocks etc.

[Drawer 4] new cheap set of 12 ea SAE and metric wrenches, + 3 additional sizes of metric, in separate metal holders, 3 SAE flange wrenches, a HF 1/2 torque wrench in its case.

[Drawer 5] a nice selection of good chisels and punches. Bunch of misc files. Cheap snapring plier set. HF multimeter. Tape measure. Other ****.

[Drawer 6] a small selection of hammers, a 1/2 HF 25" breaker bar. Extra socket rails. A 6" c-clamp. Other ****.

[Bottom storage compartment] A noisy but working angle grinder with a couple discs, a hacksaw with blades, and some other stuff I don't remember.

I put in new keyed-alike locks. I got them from here (no aff etc): http://www.ebay.com/itm/151409308229?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

The 'hook' was a little short for the top so I had to file it a little and bend the catch down a little - no big deal, and you can't open the top but lock the little drawer anymore. Life goes on. The bottom works fine. I gave him two keys, his mother one, and taped one to the bottom of the roller.

He's already changed his water pump with it. I think I did good. Many many thanks to all.

Now all I've got to do is remember HE ISN'T A KID anymore :)

Pete
