CPO Milwaukee is selling it for $149.95 through their own site. Intersting that you can save $60 by just doing a little research.

Good point. I adjusted the original post to reflect that the sale is not via Amazon directly but a 3rd party.

The deal is mentioned as a "gold box deal" and is valid until October 12th, I believe. Usually gold box deals are through Amazon directly, but I've been seeing Rockler, Small Parts, and other well reputable vendors' offerings being included.

This isn't the first time that a 3rd party product was offered for cheaper via Amazon than their own site. Since it is a "gold box" deal, there was probably some sort of an agreement between Amazon and CPO Milwaukee.

With how random Amazon is sometimes, who knows what's going on. I also wouldn't be surprised if CPO Milwaukee sees more business via Amazon than its own site.

I've had an 18V cordless hatchet for over 4-5 years. (I also own a corded sawzall)
The 1st time my father used mine, He commented that he couldn't see the point of buying the cordless version since he already had a corded one.
After using it for a project, he asked me to find him a good deal on a Milwaukee 18V drill/saw combo
I don't think he's used his trusty corded version since

-It was great to not deal with a power cord when I had to replace a leaky galvanized water pipe up in the attic.
-use it to trim limbs/branches
-Can also be used for hunting (quartering meat)

The steel Quik-Lok™ blade clamp accepts universal 1/2 in. shank Sawzall® blades without the need of a hex key.

I think I'm going to pull the trigger....I think the only downside is that it' comes with only one Ni-Cad battery.....

If you buy one make sure you check the battery when you get it. Milwaukee had a recall on some of their 18V ni-cads. If it turns out to be old stock it could possibly have a recalled battery. Check their site or call them to check the model number date code. I had two that were recalled, worked out good for me because I'd been using them for about 4 years and ended up getting two brand new batteries. They sent Fedex labels for my two recalled batteries and a couple weeks later I got the new batteries shipped to me. These saw work really great with the new lithium Ion batteries though.

Yeah I will check the batteries when they come in. I ordered two, one for me, and one for my dad. I know he'll get more use out of it, but I couldn't pass it up. Plus he bought me a 3 day pass for the drag races this weekend..........so it evens out

I really like my Hatchet. I've got another Milwaukee cordless Sawzall that came in a new set that I got last year. The new one is no where near the quality of the Hatchet. It works ok but I hate the speed control on the new one, it's hard to make low speed cuts with it. I'm thinking about picking up a second Hatchet, they are really handy to have around for small jobs or jobs under the house, on the roof, etc. that are hard to get power to.

I think I lucked out.......

I ordered two of these things, as I mentioned above, and went to the drag races today with my dad. We are checking out all of the vendor booths set up around the track and we stop in to the Chicago Pneumatic booth. They are not really set up for selling anything, but we notice that there is a stack of Cordless Impact Wrench guns sitting on the table. When I inquire, the guy tells me that they are on 'sale'

1st model:

CP8740 for $125

and 2nd model:

CP8745 for $175

So I check the web on the going price (via my blackberry) and the 8740 is going for about $205 and the 8745 is going for $296. I've been wanting a cordless impact, so my dad and I figure what the hell.

To make up for me buying him the saw earlier this week, he buys me a 8740 and one for himself, and also picks up a 8745 for himself as well. The marketing guy is pretty cool about the sale, so he throws in 4 extra batteries, t-shirts and caps for all.

So I'm pretty stoked, and when I get home tonight, there is a package on the front step. Yep it's the pair of saws we bought. So I open the box and look at the pretty red case and think to myself, man that looks familiar, sure enough it's the same type of box that the cordless air guns came in. The chargers are the same (it works on both the 14.4 and the 18v batteries) and the battery for the 8745 is the same, just different company badging. So we end up with spare batteries for both items to boot. Plus we don't need both chargers out, we could use one charger for both tools.


Sweet deal....can't wait to get to some wrenching this week when I have to tear down my front axle to replace some seals......
