Well, I was at a garage sale today and was riffling though a box of misc.. I picked up a old looking open end wrench looks to be for square heads. Well, The guy said 50 cents and I bought it. After I bought it, the old guy picked up a ratchet off the shelf and showed it to me.. it looked to be a 1/2" drive ratchet with no drive lug.. just a 1/2" square hole in the middle(not 100% on the size). It said on the back.. winchester.. mass.. made in usa.. 1916 ! It had the direction selector - at the end of the handle.. and it works. Does anyone know anything about these.. I did a google.. came up empty. I asked him how much.. and he said 20 bucks. I did buy it.. I have no idea of it's value.

a ratchet from 1916, impossible, Snap on invented the ratchet! Hahaha, thats what my dealer told me, I politely corrected him.

These very early ratchets are very cool, but $20 is most likely about right.

All I can tell you is anything relating to the Winchester rifle company usually sells for insane high money. If it is related to the rifle company I am sure you got a great buy.

I have been collecting both Winchester and Keen Kutter tools since I was nine years old (almost 30 years). I honestly have not ever seen a Winchester ratchet like you described. I don't think it would be worth a fortune, but definately worth a $20 bill.
