The maglock is designed to be mounted so the armature is face to face with the maglock. In your mount, you have it in a shear/sliding situation. You won't have anywhere close to 1200#s of holding force if you can get it to bond at all. The armature has to float which allows for a small degree of misalignment. The maglock's capability to "****" the armature in is very limited. Before you get too deep, I would get the door back on and swinging and sort out the lock mounting. If you don't have the armature, I would scrap the maglock. The armature has to be extremely flat ( think surface ground) to effectively bond. Feel free to PM me or post here with any questions

Thanks for the info. I have the armature that came with the lock. There should be very little sheer/sliding of the lock before it breaks contact, but I'll be sure and swing the door to make sure though.

I think the point about the mag lock being used in shear is a good one, the mag locks are designed to have the forces pulling perpendicular to the face of the magnet, not parallel. I'd recommend installing the armature and testing the pulling force before you commit to this arrangement.

I use these frequently in large electrical enclosures, they can be a bit tricky to get setup correctly.

Will do. I guess if it doesn't work in this position I could mount it against the inside wall. It will be somewhat in the way and quite unattractive however. Let's hope the position it's in now will work out. It will be a week or so before I can play around with it.
