1943 Navy tool Box

I got this box, oilcan and ratchet in a load of scrap iron . I thought at first the box was home made. This box would make you think about joining another branch of the arm services. Is there any pictures of how this was loaded with tools it has a small box under the lid?

This is a very common box from what i have found. Very heavy i dont want to carry it .

It’s a toolbox for the M1937 field range. They pop up from time to time. I’ve got one from 1945. Mine is missing the cover from the inside of the lid.

Only just. There’s not much clearance for the pump at all. I believe it was packed flat against the bottom of the box.

Your joke is actually a double joke, whether you know it or not! The M1937 field range was prone to explosions. All the lines and hoses and fittings were temperamental.

The other funny story here is how many guys in their gussied up parade jeeps are probably running around with a tire pump that came out of an old field range, for pressurizing the fuel tank (45*F warm weather, 60*F cold weather), not the tires on an old jeep.
