Hey guys. First time posting but have browsed the site many many times and appreciate the great info.

I've been looking for a used air compressor. I've had my current compressor for maybe 15 years and it has never been big enough especially for my die grinders. I came across a 1945 Wayne 80 gallon but without the 5 hp motor that was on it. I'm not sure if 5 hp is the original size. Quite a bit older than what I was looking for but asking $150. It says pump works great. It's a model 3208hs.

Does anyone know anything about it? Would I be better off dropping a grand on a newer used one? Seems like the oldies are beasts. Any help would be appreciated.

Can't comment on the 3208 in particular but Wayne made very good pumps for decades. There are several Wayne threads that can be found with a search.

1945 as in 1945 like ww2? I wouldn't spend 15 cents on a compressor that old if the tank is as old as the machine. Unless I'm totally misunderstanding you

Thanks Mike. I'll do a search.

That's right Tcianci, WWII 1945. I will definitely listen to your advice. They made stuff much better back then but 1945 is probably pushing it. I might just break down and buy a new one but figured I'd search for a good used one first.

The way I look at it, unless you have a 5 HP motor sitting on the shelf waiting for this unit, you're going to have to buy one just to find out if it works. 5 HP motors cost $300 on up. Also, if it ever needed parts, will you be able to source them or just decide to buy one at that point? Better to get something newer unless having something from 1945 just floats your boat and is worth the risk to you.

Makes sense. Thanks for the suggestions. It's a decent drive away too so would have to take that into account.

Thanks for all of your opinions. It makes sense to pass this one by. Plus, he updated the ad and said the tank has a small weld from a repair. I'm guessing they didn't get a hydro test back in the day after the repair was made. It's a definite no now.
