I got this Delta 37-20x jointer from my Aunt. She bought it used a while back with plans to make bird houses but never followed through. It's mostly just neglected but doesn't show any signs of abuse.

And here is the finished jointer. The stand is the HF 29" that I beefed up and is likely temporary until I find the right one. New knives and paint is really all I had to buy for this. The bearings were surprisingly good. I have a Cman 1hp motor sitting in line to be attatched to the stand somehow. I'd like to hang it so the lower shelf is still usable and I don't have a mile of exposed belt.

Maybe you already know how, but sharpening and correctly setting the jointer knives are key to getting good results. The Delta Operator's Manual is available on line and there are still copies of the book Getting the Most Out of Your Circular Saw and Jointer out there.

Great job on the jointer. I love to see old tools get back to work. I hope you saved the original knives. They are probably quality made and just need sharpening. It would be nice to have an extra set available.
I actually have the owners manual, its in pretty good shape for being 70 years old.
I have a couple books and watched some video's on set up. I used a proper straight edge and feeler gauges and got the tables co-planer and square to the fence.
I borrowed a magnetic knife setting jig from my old man and got new knives set up properly. I made some chips tonight, this old boy runs great and gave me excellent results.
The old knives were pitted and had been sharpened so many times they were just a sliver and didn't seem safe. New knives were only $15 shipped on amazon, though probably not as good of steel as the old ones.
