1949 Craftsman model 99 CM 4360

I recently made a purchase of an "older, smaller type tool box" (as described
to me on the phone) for the price of $75. After some research which led me
to this site, I found out exactly what I had. A 1949 Craftsman 25" 3-drawer
roller cabinet.

@ sselander - ummmmm...would you be willing to part with the top box?

@ djjsr - my friends chide that I paid twice what it's worth...HA!

@ timbitca - yes, I intend to restore it in the original hammertone silver (or is it silver
hammertone?) and put a wood top on it.

I'm 98% certain that the Sears Hammertone of that era maps best to Rustoluim hammertone Grey. It was a dead on match on my 1954 five drawer bottom roller at least.

Nice find!

Thanks Outlaw, I'll check into that. The paint on the drawers look more silver-blue or
gray. I'm going to bring the top drawer home this weekend and start experimenting with
that. It is being used to hold my tools at work so I can't go at this project full bore until
I buy another cabinet. My friend's brother has a Craftsman 42" 22-drawer two piece
combo roller (gloss black) and has agreed to sell it to me as soon as he picks out his
new roller. So this project may take some time before it gets started in earnest.

Does anybody have an idea about how the cover comes out?

Restoration update

As per Outlaw's recommendation, I'd searched for Rustoleum Hammered gray
only to find out it isn't available Garfield County. A trip to Lowes to order
some revealed I had to order 6 rattle cans (a full case) plus shipping and wait
2 weeks. (a little pissed about that). I now have the paint and have fully
dissassembled the roller. Drilled for new caster upgrade, removed all handles,
will tape over craftsman logos and sanded everything with 60 grit to get rid
of any surface rust. I left my camera at the shop so I'll post pics later. I do
have a couple of pics showing my new tool box and the roller in my little
piece of heaven.

The new tool box is a Craftsman 41" wide 5-drawer top chest and 11 drawer
tool cart with ball bearing drawer slides and griplatch that I picked up for
$1137 and change.

Did you buy that from me?? I sold the same model with the top for 75$ last year when I got to clean a garage and keep everything for free.
