Can anyone tell me if the head of my drill press is adjustable raise/lower?
Also,if so, is there a stop to prevent it from plummenting into the table?….Thanks

Thanks Guys. I have released the lever trying to rotate the head slightly to align it to the base. It does not move;must be stuck after all these years..thankfully!! I`ll purchase a colar as stated above and proceed cautiously …EH

On mine when it sticks, screw the handle out a turn or so and give it a whack with your hand or a rubber hammer. should loosen the lock.

And open the belt cover and show us how much column is sticking out. I suspect that one has column coming out past what is needed and could be raised.

AFTER you get a collar below it... :lol_hitti

That ^^^ for sure.

The lock for the head has two wedge-shaped cylinders that clamp (or wedge) the column and sometimes they get stuck. Loosening the lever and lightly tapping the locking screw as suggested will usually loosen one or both of the wedge pieces. Don't hit the lever too hard--it's a die casting and can be all too easily broken.

Looks like a standard 15" bench model. They never had a collar for the head from the factory and you really don't need one as long as you employ common sense.

Just a heads up, you are going to need a split collar, one that comes in two pieces, if you want to put it on and you can't get the head off right now. Otherwise if you just get a one piece collar it won't do you any good right now.

As mentioned check the column under the belt cover to make sure it is all the way up.

Since that is a bench top press I would probably just lay it over onto a thick blanket or work mat instead of buying a $40 collar for basically one time use. No worries then about crashing down.

Alos don't forget to align the base with the head you also may be able loosen the bolt on the base to line it up.
