1950s Cement pad/floor - Repair? Cover?

Our garage is an old carriage house and now a 2-car garage. The floor is grimy and has some long cracks and isn't level in some areas.

I can add pictures to the thread later - but should I try:

1. Fixing the cracks and leveling the floor
2. Self leveling material and then use poly floor tiles?
3. Are there any durable paint (afraid of expoxy) options?

I want to restore the garage to a nice looking shop, but need to do so on a budget. Looking through the existing threads here, I'm not sure which projects I'm capable of completing by myself!

I'm curious to see what gets recommended to you, as my garage floor is similar vintage. Its in good condition but has large areas of spalling and pitting from being old. I've seen some threads on cutting out the bad areas and applying filler before doing your coating but I'm not sure it works so well when you have larger areas. Let me know if you find any good threads to reference!

Pictures would be very helpful. If the cracks have displaced vertically, it indicates the floor has lost it's structural integrity making repairs very difficult. Another consideration is the likely lack of a vapor barrier, which could allow water vapor to interfere with the adhesion of paint or other floor coverings. Might be best to consider a loose laid floor tiles.
