Happy Monday, everyone.
I'm back at it again, I found an oval logo craftsman toolbox on FaceBook Marketplace for $20, bought it for $10. I loved the patina on it, but after getting it home and taking a closer look I decided it needed some not-so-tender TLC.
Upon further inspection I found the tray was rusted all the way through on one end, the lid had been bent back too far and put a crease along the length of the bottom hinge, and the strip for the bottom hinge also had a popped spot weld and was separating.
I was able to bend out the crease and spot weld the separated area. My father in law just happened to have a matching tray that he got in the 80's and let me have it; it was in perfect condition, besides a bad rattle can gray paint job. (The original paint was still underneath, albeit weathered) The latches are in good shape and the logo is in great shape. I put the latches in evaporust over night, then I wet a 0000 steel wool pad with WD-40 and polished them along with the logo. I applied a coat of automotive clear coat to the logo so it will last another 60 years or more.
If you have made it this far, we both need to get a life.
Joking aside I will be posting updates as I go. I have everything painted and drying tonight and tomorrow. Then I'll be putting it all back together. Wish me luck on the hinge wire, those always kick my ****.
