Happy Monday, everyone.

I'm back at it again, I found an oval logo craftsman toolbox on FaceBook Marketplace for $20, bought it for $10. I loved the patina on it, but after getting it home and taking a closer look I decided it needed some not-so-tender TLC.

Upon further inspection I found the tray was rusted all the way through on one end, the lid had been bent back too far and put a crease along the length of the bottom hinge, and the strip for the bottom hinge also had a popped spot weld and was separating.

I was able to bend out the crease and spot weld the separated area. My father in law just happened to have a matching tray that he got in the 80's and let me have it; it was in perfect condition, besides a bad rattle can gray paint job. (The original paint was still underneath, albeit weathered) The latches are in good shape and the logo is in great shape. I put the latches in evaporust over night, then I wet a 0000 steel wool pad with WD-40 and polished them along with the logo. I applied a coat of automotive clear coat to the logo so it will last another 60 years or more.

If you have made it this far, we both need to get a life.

Joking aside I will be posting updates as I go. I have everything painted and drying tonight and tomorrow. Then I'll be putting it all back together. Wish me luck on the hinge wire, those always kick my ****.

The Waterloo mark is cool.

You've done a great job. Looks great.

This photo of parts floating in mid-air is very surreal. :)

Okay, guys, I'm back. Sorry it took so long to get an update, the box is done but....

It turns out Kroil penetrating oil eats paint. Who knew? When I was putting the hinge wire in, I put some kroil on the hinge and it ate my paint. No big deal, though, it's an easy fix.

Overall, it turned out really well. I'm very pleased, now I just need to get some carpet or something to line the inside. 20191212_170332.jpeg20191212_170328.jpeg20191212_170310.jpeg20191212_170300.jpeg20191212_170237.jpeg

That's a fine restoration. Don't need any carpet just restart turning it back into another old vintage toolbox! ;0)

That looks great, hope it gives you years of pleasure and good service. I also loved the pics of the newly painted parts hanging from the trees! I wondered, 'do toolboxes grow on trees in America?'!
