The last line of the article reads "This wreck is more than ready." I see it as a gem that should be saved. It seems the spirits of the past have been fighting its destruction, lets hope it can fight off the most recent one and find a caring owner that will restore it for private use. Its my dream to own a 50s service station. I wish I could find one like this locally.

They're stoked that a new condo will be taking over the spot? Yay, how important, a new condo!

Probably a waste of time, but I left a nice comment. :)

I have a buddy that recently purchased a garage in town that used to be a bus depot. The place is huge!! It was built in the late 20s and it does show its age some but it serves him well as he opened up his shop in there and can comfortably work on about 15 vehicles at a time (he has about 10 employees). You can still see where the old floor lifts were (they are long gone) and he has recently ordered 2 more lifts to accompany the one he already had. It is in a great location in town and he stays busy as ever as i t is nothing to see 10 vehicles leave with 20 coming in a day. Little by little on the weekends I have been helping him update the place with more lighting, rewiring, and general repairs to the facility. He wants to get the brick sandblasted this summer as the paint looks horrible on the building. The only bad part of the place is parking, he has to rent a lot across the street so his employees can park and he can park finished cars. Sorry to slightly hijack but I'm just glad to see a local landmark being used again.

thats awesome your buddy did that, you take any building, car or whatever and leave it outside with little care it will fall into disrepair and look unappealing to most. Once your buddy repaints the outside it will look like a different building and a gem to the ones that once thought it was ugly and should be torn down. Same with garage I posted, a little love would make a huge difference in appearance

Living in Ottawa I drove past that station many times. It is hard for the average guy to come up with the dollars to preserve stations in the center core. There are a few on Merivale that have been kept, one being my dad's Sunoco built in the late 50's that is now a used car lot. The downtown area has and still is under a lot of pressure to modernize and as a result many older homes and buildings have been torn down and new buildings built.
