This might be the wrong place to post this but I thought I'd give it a shot.

I saw somewhere about a year ago that a guy widened his be by 5" in width. Has any one done this on here and if so what was your reasoning for doing so?

My guess is to make the bed rails match up with the side of the cab.

I'm not familiar with the body replacement panel market but the prices seem really low for what the parts are. Nice find.

Some guys widen the bed in order to retain factory width fenders to install later model axles. I did a 4" wider bed box with larger tubs to cover more of the back of the cab on my 56 and to fit wider wheels and tires. I even seen a 55 panel that the 5" wider bed was grafted into and made into more of a fleetside truck. I guess there could be a number of reasons

That was kind of my thought. I’ve got C4 corvette rear suspension with 20x10 wheels so I need to do something either wider fenders or tubs. Maybe even both I’m still in the mock up stage.

Thanks for the info guys

Greetings bergheger3.
I have a 56 with a C4 rear, I went with fenders that were 3 inches wider.
The box would most likely have to be tubed to make room for a 10 inch wide tire.
I wanted the be to appear stock on the inside of the box.
Let me know if you want any pictures or anything.

Thanks for the info. I’m good on pictures for now.
I was tossing back and forth weather to widen the bed or not. I think I’m leaning towards not doing it and just adding mini tubs and widen the fenders. Verse massive tubs and stock fenders.

I’m going to try and keep a picture log and create a post of the bed build.
