1956 kellogg peerless motor wiring?

Hi, i just bought this air compressor model-331 with a very large 3hp motor. there is no cable to the motor and i think the two capacitors are the wrong value . If someone out there has this motor and can tell me the cap. value and help with the wiring it would be very much appreciated. thanks joe

Please take a good photograph of the motor plate label showing the specs and let us know what each tag says that I see on each wire coming out of the motor.

Theoretically you should have 5 wires coming out of the motor? C1, C2, C3, C4 & C5. You'll just need to identify which ones are C1 and C5.

Based on the pics, that motor is an older style with heavier mass needing a bit more oomph than modern motors. Also, check the bearings on the motor, if they're draggy, that makes it even harder to start.

Question: Is the two captors both start capacitors wired together or one Start Cap and one Run Cap? I think sometimes they use two start caps to fit inside the case. despite uF value, you're going to want 330v caps., they'll last longer.

Hi,I talked to someone on friday about my situation with this 3hp motor that came off an kellogg aircompressor made in 1956. There is no power cord to motor and some wires are just laying loose. first problem i could use help with is the correct capacitor values for the two caps which i think are the wrong value. Even though this is only 3hp the current draw is 17amps so do i use charts that i see on line for 3hp or 3910watts. There also is a thermal devise as seen in pic.
The wires that i can make out the label are: t2,t3,t4,c and c1 c1 goes into motor, c has another wire attached to it one into motor and one goes to thermal device. one side of each cap connects together and goes into motor

hi Macgee, this is what i emailed to a motor rebuiding company today. i know this is very hard to do on line but i have to try. there is only c,c1,c2 on motor label. The caps were replaced with to different types but i am sure there wrong value. one tab on eah cap is missing,one tab from each cap is y together and then goes into motor. I need to identify c2 and l1 to begin with thanks,joe
