Hmmm, back to 9-10 -ish MPG, eh?
:lol_hitti
Don't really care what it gets for mileage. With a bit of tuning I am thinking 14+ pretty easily. Prob will not drive over 100 miles on a one way trip and the smiles per gallon will be all that's needed. Trucks get 9-12 depending on state of tune and 3.50 to 4.10 gearing Cyclone came standard with a 3.25 but it will get what it gets. Will I dial it in to check for improvements? Absolutely. If it's properly tuned and gets 10-12 then so be it.

Randy, if I drove my cars 20 thousand miles a year I might care about mileage (but I doubt it). In 1977 I bought my first Corvette, a '69 convertible with a 390hp 427 and 4-speed. Paid $3,500 for the car because of "The Gas Crisis." Nobody (but me) wanted a big block because it got terrible fuel mileage. Second Corvette, in 1978, was a '72 coupe with a 454 and Turbo 400 automatic. I may have damaged some of my smile muscles driving those cars. Being older, I now drive a 4-door sedan -- a 556hp Cadillac CTS-V and I've never checked the mileage. I think it's recorded somewhere in the instrument cluster. Maybe I should worry about the cost of 285/35-19 tires. Not!

Always gotta be one smart-*** in the group and it always seems to be you! Doesn't matter what I post what I decide to buy or do you have some smart-*** comment to make. It's been going on far too long now and am tired of it. How about you find another thread to post on? I don't think I should need to explain anything to you about each post I make. From here on out I could care less what you think and will no longer reply to ANYTHING you have to say.

Hey Bob, I didn't bring up mileage on the Cyclone.
I already know what to expect and what ever it gets it gets.
Pretty much each and everything I buy I have a very good idea what the MPG will be. I have owned well over 300 cars in my day and probably 200 Muscle cars. If I drive any a longer distance than say 50-70 miles in any direction I sure do want to know what the MPG is so I can calculate how far I can go and it has become some type of challenge to see what I can eek out of each one.
There are many many stretches of the most common AZ highways that one can go nearly 100 miles without a gas station.
A common trip say from my place to Flagstaff is 130+ miles each way. Knowing MPG is quite important for just that reason.

Take for instance the Cyclone. I know exactly what it is and can do a educated guess what the MPG will be. I ain't buying it for the mpg. But if I get it and it gets 5 mpg no question I will tune until I get the best it can get then whatever that number is nothing I can do I have no plans of it being a long distance cruiser. But there are a lot of shows A trip to Tucson for a car show would be fun it's 140 miles each way be nice to know if I could travel that far or not. Then from there figure out which stations to stop at etc.
Right now it's about 5.50 here for a gallon of premium fuel on the low end. Flagstaff is about the same distance. If car gets 10 mpg I could care less it's a price to pay for having the car I want. MPG is more about how far can I go on a fill than the actual MPG the specific vehicle gets.

Take my '66 N Crew Cab. With current engine the 330/361 with deep gears I would guess 5 mpg or less would be good number. If that is what it gets then that's the number. If I want to go long distance I would have to adjust the size of fuel tank.

Current plan is to do just that make it a long distance cruiser I am wanting to drop in the 7.3 Godzilla 6R140 setup for multiple reasons and of course MPG has to be factored in but the biggest reason I would swap engines is the power output. The rear diff is a 6.50/9.04 so top speed lucky cruise 50-55 mph on level ground in High-Range. If I want to climb to Flagstaff 7500' elevation or make a mountain pass it's a serious issue with power output and of course MPG would be a factor with a 30 gallon fuel tank and not enough reserve to make it in between gas stations.

I would hope to be able to drive it with truck on flatbed and another truck or the Cyclone on a trailer behind it and make a long distance trek to say California or even the F100 Nationals in Pigeon Forge TN. If it gets 7-8 mpg it is what it is. Surely would not stop me from making the trip I would just have to figure in BIG $$ for the fuel bill and it surely would not be a yearly or often thing to do. Always wanted to make the trip and never did and hoping to do just that May of 2024.

MPG is something I may mention often but it's not the end of the world. If that were the case I would own a prius or some other type vehicle to sip the gas. My daily driver is a 16 yr old AWD family sedan I paid 1500.00 for a good 6 yrs ago with 240k miles and the wifes car is a family sedan with bumping 190k miles it is 14 yrs old and we bought it for 900.00 had it 7 yrs now.

Few months ago times were quite tough around here so of course we had to pinch the pennies on fuel costs just to make the next house and insurance payments. I will continue to pinch those pennies where needed but not giving up my hobby as of yet.

My average miles driven per year not including those vacation trips maybe once or twice per year is only 2000 miles on high end plus what ever miles I drive with my older stuff for pleasure.

I drove the orange truck a total of 9500 miles in a very short time period 100% of it for pleasure. Short on $$ MPG was in fact quite important from the 5 mpg it was getting to the change to 20+. Around town so be it but I wanted to go on those longer 1000 mile trips and with 5 mpg it would have been Impossible.
We made MANY 400-500 mile trips on a weekend or even a single day.

My long distance cruiser MPG is important more for distance traveled
Local 50 miles one way stuff I could care less but who wouldn't want to keep it in tune to make it the best it can be.

Randy, I couldn't agree more. My parents drove from New York to Alaska in 1957, in a '53 Olds 98 towing a 15-foot travel trailer. Upon entering the Alcan Highway, we were warned to never pass a gas station, even if you had to wait for it to open. We only failed once, shipping the car by rail into Mt. McKinley National Park. Car had about a quarter tank of gas, which wouldn't get us to the camp site and back. Had to buy 5 gallons of gas that was flown in by a bush pilot -- there were no gas stations in the park. Pilot charged $1/gallon, which doesn't sound like much but in today's money that was $10.80/gallon.

A decade later our '68 Pontiac GTO got 10 mpg. It got 9.5 mpg towing a 3,500 lb. boat. I'm pretty sure a decent fuel injection system could improve that dramatically but that wasn't an option back then. I did swap the Quadrajet out for a Holley spread bore but it didn't change the mileage.

Man, I hope that you recover from whatever has happened to set you off.

That post you quoted may be one of three, four? Maybe? None were pointed or harsh... all in good humor, or so I thought.

The number of compliments certainly exceeds anything else.

Oh well.

Sometimes, it's REALLY hard to tell serious from sarcasm.

This was one of those times.

Fortunately, I thought the better of it and left it alone. I would assume that the folks that "liked" your response may have missed the sarcasm, as I did.

Good luck getting some more mileage out of this... 😁

I just knew you would complain about the mileage on that one! It was designed to get the WORST mileage of any joke i have ever told.
Now that it ran out of gas ⛽️ i can get back to work.. lots to do around here with the nice weather.
Oh, got really good mileage out of that last 300 lbs of sand. Reused same stuff like 8 times.
Like the joke it got thinner each time around.

I am always 3 days late ⏰ and a buck short of everything. My best excuse i can give is flat out LAZY.
It did hit 93 degrees today. So far just on bottom side i have used up 1050 lbs of blast media. Bottom pretty much done, turned out nice. Just a bit on firewall left and part of front N only cab mounts. Never realized trying to hold my arms over my head hanging onto the blasting equipment could be so hard. I will try my best to come up with multiple excuses to cover up being lazy..

Sun in perfectly wrong place now & it’s still 89 deg but hope to finish up firewall before it gets too dark out. Then with a bit (ok a lot) of cleanup i could actually apply primer and color to bottom side & firewall. Think it would look nice enough.

BIG update is this cab. It’s HUGE with a lot of surface area & nooks n crannies. Shockingly nice on bottom side. Looked horrid but was mostly the thin coating of rustproofing that had. Gathered 57 yrs worth of dirt. Even area around battery looks nice 227BBE14-5958-4E88-A41C-564F8438CC44.jpeg28D0C0E7-F8BC-42F7-B3CB-FD5D0A3FA19E.jpeg8004233B-5060-45D1-88E3-B88EBD7FE5DD.jpeg54028E62-F255-4C21-AF95-0B37E5474D5D.jpeg

Spent 2 prior days+ scraping all the rustproofing off. First by heating until very soft then letting cool. That in itself was a lot of elbow grease.
Only pulled the cab a week ago. Yep, going to be hurtin’ in the morning. Blasted a bit more in firewall cab mount areas after dinner but could no longer hold my arms above my head.
Will finish up early AM. Gotta switch back to well used media for remaining firewall and bit more on dash and inside firewall.
There was little to no green on bottom side.
It was all the factory red oxide color primer with light coat of “slop paint” over it. Tannish red color they used then had rustproofing over that.
Tempted to do thin coat of green over primer/slop paint. Then satin clear. Help protect it all with decent coverage.
I had a full gallon of the slop paint mixed up.

What it looked like after scraping.
Some bare metal.

If my neighbor shows up to help in morning i may actually prime n paint the entire bottom in steps above. Time to try out my new pressure pot I ordered from England a year or so back.
New version of the JGA502 updated from back in the 70’s (no restrictions type)
I have unrestricted version of the US HVLP also. It really does fantastic job of atomizing the paint. Bring it back to 1966.

You are an animal! Wish I had half your energy. Blasting in the heat with a hood on is brutal, and so is collecting and filtering and reloading all the media. I remember you talking about leaving this one alone and just making it drivable, we knew you couldn't do that. It's going to be like a new truck.

I have waiting 2 yrs wanting so bad to just pull the cab and do it right. Simply never had the $$. Selling F100R was a total game changer. Looking back now after the last week of progress it was all so worth it. Do it once do it right and be done with it in a absolute fraction of the time it would have taken even to clean things up. I have not had a week like this in well over 25 yrs. Pulling cab a week ago friday and just tinkering but trying to kick it in high gear best I could the last 4 or so days. The heat was brutal but at least I was in the shade under the truck. Don't sweat easy but when it's 92-95 deg out with the blasting hood on the sweat was running like a faucet.
Will do a update on the phone in a bit . . Great Results! Yep, got just a tad carried away but 110% pleased with how it turned out.
I will be using this method on all the rest of trucks left to do. Total time saver. Best materials I could buy should last a couple lifetimes now if prior lasted 57 yrs this month.

Few pics of days labor.
Finished blasting bottom then it was vacuum, blow with air hose & repeat for a couple hours.
The laid down a couple coats of PPG epoxy on underneath and firewall. Then decided why not paint full underside body color vs various primers and slop paint.
Couple nice coats of the factory Holly Green in PPG DBC then laid a few coats of satin clear on bottom side then switched to PpG 2021 Gloss clear for firewall and cab mount supports. I think it turned out near perfect considering there was a 1000+ lbs of blasting media all over. No clue how i managed to get zero dirt in paint.
