And thanks for posting about that 78 Bronco... I'm the "guy" that has been looking for one... its very tempting, but unfortunately it's just not the right time for me.

I also want to thank you again for that test drive in Eco 1 way back in 2017 when I visited your shop. It was amazing to experience it in person!

Re: 1966 F100 EcoBoost Engine Swap & 1966 427 Project

Thanks All! Have had some good help this week. Was able to get the shop shoveled out and yard around shop cleaned up. Not much fun being outside when it’s 113 deg.

Somehow managed to finish up front brake stuff on Eco2.7 project so I could make it a roller. With shop cleaned I now have room for the 1997 F350 crew cab and Rainbow Ranger along with enough room left to work on Rainbow box or doors or other sheet metal.

Shop looks great, it's tough to realize how big it is through the various photos, as you don't always get to see the big picture, you've got a great space. That reminds me, I need to clean up my garage, it's so much better working in an organized space.

Re: 1966 F100 EcoBoost Engine Swap & 1966 427 Project

Pulled engine a couple times to get it all to fit. Last time to give the front frame stub & steering/suspension a proper steam clean.

Next is to get a proper serpentine belt setup so I can properly fit the turbos. With 2 1/4” primary tube OD it’s going to be tight.

Randy, thanks for the Friday laugh. When you said clean up and "large tree" I was looking for the tree. Then I saw the shrub you pulled out. Different parts of the country have different size trees.

Having been to the west, I can see where that tree has size though!

Rest of projects and shop organization is going well. I have worked on neither.

I should have said "Weed" as that is what it is. At 58 1/2" in circumference a foot n a half off ground surface that is a quite large (Weed) people call them trees around here. It was largest one on my property 25-30' tall. There were branches 8" in diameter a few inches off ground but I kept cutting them back. Messiest tree/weed on earth. Not only are they UGLY but year round its making a mess with leaves, fuzzies like cotton, yellow flowers and now this time of year droppings which look like large rat poop.

Waiting on parts for the b9 build so figured I had 2 weeks dead time to work on Rainbow Ranger. Actually got much more done in just 3-4 days so far from typical but did have a lot of help.

Re: 1966 F100 EcoBoost Engine Swap & 1966 427 Project

Started on Rainbow late Wednesday by pulling engine and transmission.
Pretty steady on it when I could until late Thursday evening when it was all torn down and frame loaded on trailer for a 5:30 am run to powdercoat place.

See how much progress can be made by August 1st when parts are due for B9 project.

Yesterday was sandblasting day for cab, rear bumper and rear axle. A whole bunch of parts went into the Evaporust.

Also prepping the engine for base clear. Noticed the timing chain a tad lose with around 4deg or slop which is ok but still has the nylon cam gear so will replace. Will also replace rear main seal along with clutch and pressure plate, throw out brg.

Does it ever end?

Nice to see no sign of rust not even a pinhole in the floor pans.

Getting too old for this!
Another year n a half I can slow down.

Re: 1966 F100 EcoBoost Engine Swap & 1966 427 Project

Seems like progress at a total crawl but a little progress.

A week ago pulled Rainbow engine. Did partial teardown after looking thru fuel pump hole in timing cover and seeing it still had original timing chain with nylon timing gear. Many many cracks so decided to replace. Also needed a rear main oil seal replace. Found engine never been apart! Still had original bearings dated 4-66.
Also replaced the original aluminum oil pump. Assy now attempting to do a bit of detail in progress. Painted engine in PPG Global base with 2021 Clear. Looks good.

Did get engine assy down to bare metal for good starting point.

Countless hours in detailing/cleaning parts. Still a lot of sandblasting to be done. Heavy rains yesterday and things finally drying out.

Will blast until dark.

Do you wear latex gloves when your working Randy? I use SAS brand Thickster 14mil gloves with a sprinkle of talcum powder inside. they actually last a fair while and dont feel nearly as clammy with the powder.

Don't take that allergic reaction lightly. Allergies get worse each time you are exposed to what is causing it. One of my crew became allergic to bananas at the age of 35. Been eating them all his life. Brought one with his lunch one day and about 1:30 his eyes were puffed up. Didn't think anything of it. Few weeks later, his whole face swelled up. He looked like a comic book character. Still clueless because he had been eating them all his life. Went and got tested by an Allergist. Doc said one more time and he might have gone into anaphylactic shock. He now has to keep an Epipen pen with him at all times.
Go get tested!! We love this thread and don't want to see it come to an end!

Great to see you back in the shop. Love the projects you have been sharing. In the middle of my own 2.7 ecoboost project and hope to pick your brain on it one of these days!

Do you wear latex gloves when your working Randy? I use SAS brand Thickster 14mil gloves with a sprinkle of talcum powder inside. they actually last a fair while and dont feel nearly as clammy with the powder.

Only time I wear that type gloves is when things are really greasy and prob 10-15 min tops at a time. SAS Latex Free Nitrile
Around shop I wear leather gloves a lot especially outside stuff or will burn hands. It’s that hot out this time of year. Hands very wimpy these days not calluses like yrs ago.

These allergic reactions I think are a combo of possible food & chemical mix all caused by the antibiotics for the Valley Fever. Just gotta really watch what I eat and also contact with even hand soap. These kind projects it’s many hand washings per day. I need a special antibacterial soap. Too much dish soap with combo of wrong foods it really flares up.

Thanks Scott!

Seems each time I find a allergist or naturopathic doc that knows what’s going on they die or move away.

Very recently a lady doc seemed to really be trying to figure it out. Progress being made and all of a sudden gets good job offer and moves to Hawaii! Just last month. Best doc ever!

Hate starting over! This was over past year. She was also trying to figure out what’s going on with legs. Right always bad but now left has joined in. By end of day they get quite swollen skin tightens up & I just gotta stop. 1752eed9011f508d96d972aed24d1fc9.jpg

e42d2dad7b5dc5897e0d8a0880d3fadf.jpg

Just a slight scuff or bump of any kind and it peels the skin. At least it heals in days not months.

Really over did it yesterday so swelling never went down overnight.

Pushing as hard as I can to make progress on Rainbow Ranger for 2 weeks.

Nothing too fancy just like Robert says.
“Making it a Driver” 1st of 2 weeks already gone by. Lots of hard work for a old guy!

Sandblasting outside in sun no shade @ 107 deg out not fun. And what a mess we have. Lol. Usually have a tarp or heavy plastic but I just let er’ rip to meet the deadline.

Re: 1966 F100 EcoBoost Engine Swap & 1966 427 Project

Called powdercoat place 2pm yesterday to check on frame and they were just pulling it out of oven! Friend “Uncle Mel” will pick it up this morning then it’s assy time! Dropped frame off 6:30 am last Friday. That’s why the push to see what I could get done in a week. Another week push and hope to have complete rolling chassis with drivetrain in! Along with paint progress on cab. (Not asking much haha)

Impressive projects you have shared with us! Reading through them has been a treat.

Even after reading through the thread, I am interested in hearing a bit more about the 2.7L EcoBoost swap. It seems like you have been one of the only people who has figured out the details of the swap without a standalone harness and certainly the only one to describe it as "easy"!

Would you mind sharing some more detail with the rest of us? Major components used? What tricks did you have to implement to trick the computer? Major challenges? Thanks in advance!

Maybe this evening when dust settles will respond. Neck deep in alligators at moment.

Girls were very young now starting families of their own.

I would strongly recommend reaching out to the Mayo Clinic and find out what it will take to see you.

They see people from all over the world.

There was also a PBS special about the history of the Mayo Clinic, and it's quite interesting.
