A guy I know is getting ride of his 1971 Miller big 20. Its defiantly seen better days. I believe it is 300 amp. I was curious if anyone had any info on them, how they were as a machine, reliability, and how many watts/power the AC generator puts out? And Weight? As I might throw it in my work truck.

Thanks

a quick email to miller might get you a spec sheet on the machine.

they were quick to respond when i had some questions on a late 70's machine i picked up.

It seems I used a couple back in the day, its got a single 120 outlet as I recall, not good as an AC power supply except for running a tool. Its a beast, good if its super cheap to burn some huge rods, as a going concern to carry, very heavy, gas hungry.

Hope you have a big truck as they are around 1/2 a ton. Only an outlet or two ~20 amps. They were a welder that could power a grinder or drill, not designed as a generator. You can probably download a manual from millers site. Tank of a welder and pretty dated, but a smooth powerhouse. Knew a guy that had an old big 40.

The "Big" series from Miller were and still are excellent machines. They are on par with Lincoln's SA200's and SA250's. They are very tough machines welder wise but are lacking in generator power. If you don't have a 1 Ton Dually or better I would not put it in your truck bed. They weigh about 1000-2000 LBS depending on if it's gas or diesel. A buddy of mine has one and he uses it a lot, mostly running rod over 1/8". He also uses it as his Air Arc rig.

Not bad machines by any means. As stated, heavy and not fuel efficient. I myself am partial to Lincoln in general but especially the sa200's. Everybody has their preference though.

I only took a couple spins on the big blue, seems I ran a 40 for a bit. I have a couple SA200's. For general work would just as soon have a Bobcat, good AC and light weight.
