do you any of you guys happen to have a 1971 Sears Craftsman tool catalog?
I'm looking for one showing tool boxes, specifically the black wrinkle and wood grain Rally box.
I have one that I got for christmas in 1971 from my parents. I needed it for work, I had recently started my first electronics job and I was really into cars so I asked for this box.
I've started working on restoring it.
It's gotten kind of rough over the years, needs repainting badly.
I'm thinking about trying some of the black wrinkle spray paint I hear they sell at the Harly Davidson shop.
Below is a pix I borrowed off the web since I haven't had a chance to take and photos of it yet.

Auto Zone used to have wrinkle paint in red and black. I used the black on a micrometer and it seemed pretty durable.

Edit...
For a 40 yr old box , it looks fine. I wouldn't bother repainting it.

I'll pay you every penny your parents spent when they bought it for it. In all seriousness I agree to just clean it up and not repaint it yet.

You guys clearly didn't read my original post.
The photo I used is NOT of my tool box, it's one I found on the web.
My already has some primer on the bottom and lower sides to stop
the rust.
I will have to soda blast it and completely repaint it.
I will try to get some pix of it tomorrow to show what it looks
like now before I start the restoration process.

I REALLY appreciate the catalog page.

I just looked at the '71 catalog. I can't believe the prices of most of those items, particularly the power tools. Lets just say today's prices are not much higher in spite of 40+ years of inflation.

Those were beefy well made units -- better made than today (especially the Chinese stuff). And back then, a lot of pros probably bought those units. Today's Craftsman power tools are mostly consumer-grade.

They had a worm drive skill saw in one, i believe 1940. It was 89 bucks. That's a lot of damn money for 1940! No wonder most carpenters were still using hand saws for under 5 bucks a piece.

i have been saying this for the last couple years on here every time the "i aint buying china tools at USA prices!!" **** spewers reiterate their illogical posts.

compare how little craftsman prices have gone up over the years, and consider inflation, pay rate increases, union stuff, outsourcing, etc... look at how much other tools companies have increased prices. then look back at those craftsman tool prices.

its nearly unbelievable.
