I just got this air compressor and when I plugged it in it ran for several minutes filling up. Once it reached around 122 psi it began blowing air out a small hole dead center on the bottom of the tank. The hole looks like it is supposed to be there but not sure if it is to be pluged or what? Any suggestion as well as why it did not shut off?

Is the hole threaded? It could be the drain.

If its just a hole in the tank with no threads or anything then its likely its a rust hole.

Is the hole threaded with a coupling welded in. If it doesn't have threads or some sort of coupling its a rust hole. I'd open it up to look anyway just to be sure.

I just bought one at auction that had a small perfectly round weld at the bottom center that looked factory made. Nope it was a rust hole welded up. The inside was full of large rust chips. I poked through the bottom with a screwdriver in multiple spots. Needless to say the tank is at the scrap yard.

Its a rust hole then. Once the pressure in the tank got high enough the weakest part of the tank failed and blew out. Take a screwdriver and poke around the bottom of the tank all around that hole. Chances are you will poke the screwdriver through the tank in several spots.

Scrap it and get a new tank. Yours is done for.
