Has anyone ever come across a craftsman red 14 drawer top tool chest? I have seen them in catalogs but have come across one. I believe they were available during the late 70's and early 80's.

Like this one?

It has a date code of 1982, I bought it at the local Sears Catalog Outlet store in 1984, along with a 9 drawer roller.

It's not my main box anymore, I just use it for stuff I don't use often.

This is what I picked up at auction. Tool Chest has never been used and was stored in a clean storage unit its entire lifespan. I have the original 9 drawer base that came with this as well. Both are lined with original cork/rubber drawer liners and were stuffed with craftsman and cheaper made tools from the same period. Everything is brand new. I guess the original owner bought this and put it into storage before ever using. It's been a fun project of mine.

Nice boxes! They are the level of nice that you don’t find every day.
I love the upper chest 14 drawer that I modified to fit inside the drop front cabinet as it works wonderfully for containing tools for sit down detail work with tweezers, miniature screwdrivers and such. That was one nicety that had been missing in my shop until I created that space.

Very nice. 👍 One thing I do remember when purchasing mine 50 years ago was the wheels are of poor quality. If you roll it around much, you may want to upgrade. Less than a year after buying mine I replaced the wheels with a set from Kennedy.

I have one like skellyii's.

Those Crane Cams decals, I have a storage unit a few blocks from Harvey Crane's original shop, before he moved to Daytona Beach FL. I knew the Crane kids, they gave poor Harvey a world of grief. That was one of the reasons Harvey pulled-up stakes and moved north a couple-hundred miles. He said it was hard to find decent help not addled by street drugs.

My friend who is a machinist, his father and he both worked for Harvey Crane, then the son went out on his own. He has his own shop not far from the old
