I finally got the rest of the donor truck I bought sold off in parts and got the cab mounted up on a wheeled dolly I made for it to create a solid base and allow access underneath for working on it. Having the wheels also allowed me move it inside my garage so I can begin stripping it down and doing the metal repair work it needs...the fun begins.

Looks pretty solid for a 79. The ones around these parts were about half gone from rust by late 80's

I hear you, anything worth buy buying for these trucks comes out of the Southwest these days, as this one did from Texas. I had to buy a whole truck (wrecked) to get a decent cab, but I'll just about get it for free once I sell the bed and the rest of the stuff left over after the cab swap.

I need to do this on my '79 k20. Also put it back to a long step side that it was originally when dad bot it. He put fleet side on it due to rust. I remember the step and thought was cool

toddoky, where are you located?
There are alot of those trucks here that go to just, not rusted out.
Can be bought whole for 4-500.

I'm in Kentucky, it's brutal here for vehicle lifespan. You can find cabs/trucks here too, but people's idea of "rust free" here is a little wacked. I'm from the west coast and Arizona, so I know the true definition of the term and find nothing here that even gets close. I'm not worried about it as I bought this truck at the right price and will basically get the cab for free once all the other parts are sold off, which 75% of them are already gone by way of ebay/craigslist.

That looks dang good for a 79. I'm in southern IN and finding a good one that body style is darn near impossible these days. I don't even see many half savable long beds anymore.

Yep, same here. I did get a good long bed with the purchase of the donor, so that will be sold off to someone else who can use it.
