I inherited a 1979 Troy Built (horse) tiller a few years back. Still runs like a charm. Downsized and have no need for it. I have all the orginial attachments, manual, and bill of sale. Any idea so it’s worth.

It ain't old enough to be an antique, nor is it new enough to command a high price. My neighbor gave me one of that vintage that needed the tires inflated and the carb cleaned. All that said, I'd ask $1000, and see if you get any takers. The things last forever.

I've got a Troy Bilt Horse. Not sure of the D.O.M. on mine, but it is from when Garden Way built them tough and built them right. After Garden Way went bankrupt Troy Bilt quality went south. Does yours have the electric start? Any attachments?

Condition is everything. If it's a no rust "creampuff" with 7 or 8 HP engine, lightly used, stored indoors, w/attachments I'd estimate $800 + or -. If it's always been stored outside, rusty, as-is condition maybe $200 max. The time to sell these is in the spring. They are nice machines when taken care off. I'm sure prices are regional.

Neighbor has bought two, both repowered with new briggs I/C engines in the last 4 or 5 years for 300 dollars. First one had a drive axle self destruct(broke the circlip) and parts NLA, it was an early one. Second one was probably your vintage. Only some parts were available and the one he needed (reverse friction wheel) was only available aftermarket. He has a good spare engine now.

Does it have a Kohler engine or Tehjunkseh? If it has a Kohler and is in functional condition they bring $600-$800 around here in the spring easy.

MIne has the Tecumseh, but it's always run good. I used to have a very rocky garden area and it would jump up in the air everytime it hit a big rock. I put in a raised bed in that area, and hauled in 2-1/2 pickup loads of compost and fixed the rock problem. So I don't use the Troy Bilt so much.

It really depends on condition, what attachments, which engine, and honestly... what time of year you're selling it. The 5hp and 6hp ones were quite under-powered and don't sell for as much. Early spring, they seem to sell higher for the obvious reason that people are putting in gardens. In my market area (mid-Michigan), in good shape, with a 7 or 8 hp engine, and maybe a hiller attachment or the snowplow, you're talking $400-$550 tops. In the off season? I've seen them for $150-$200 without attachments.
